Not something you probably wanted to hear but I've actually seen a few labs that had to have their tails docked becouse of this same problem.

Had a few that had the same problem, it helped to put them on the chain for about a week to let the tail heal. Also, blue kote spray helps.

6" long piece 3/4" rubber pipe insulation !! Duct tape it to the tail .. After you clean and treat it ..

Man have the tail cut half off!! I run beagles and it is something we have to do on a regular basis, it will stop blood loss, infection, and the dog will be happier. Your local vet can do it or if you can find a band to put around it that will do the trick .

While you're treating it, and after, the dog has to be where it is not beating that tail against the kennel fench or a tree .

Bleeder

It happens with the beagles alot. It never bothered me but if you get a bad bleeder you can cut up a milk jug and tape it on, works well.

It's called "Happy Tail Syndrome". I wrap my dogs tail with vet wrap. The hard part is keeping the scab from breaking back open so that it can heal.

Will a pair of wire cutters work? I tried it on my dog last nite and he squalled so hard I couldn't go through with it. Now he's got a tail half chopped off and he is walking sideways.

Why don't you practice by using the wire cutters on your finger?

I use Pad-Kote on any of my dogs when they have a bad (or heavy bleeding) cut, it seems to work pretty good.

I use the Blue Lotion for Horse's it works great, My plott female does the same thing, wages her tail and hits it off of her kennel Posts and Dog house. Slings blood all over and I thought she was in heat lol. Anyway I used that stuff and it heals up very quickly, she still has her waging problem, she doesn't feel the pain.
