In this day and age, folks have options. There are several clubs and registries to choose from. In today's economy, guys are going to choose where they get the most "bang for they're buck". What that is, is up to each hunter. Some like money, some like prestige, some just good hunting terrain, some just a club known for good fellowship.
I'm not afraid to travel to a hunt. A week ago, in less than 10 days I hunted 3 states and entered 5 nite hunts.
I'm going to pick events that make sense to me, whether distance, terrain, entry fee, or whatever.
When I hunted up north in Brooten I had excellent hunting. If it wasn't for the distance, I'd go back more often.
The extreme northern clubs I know hunting can be difficult. Pine forests, swamps, porcupines, & etc. If I have a choice to go north, or go the same distance to Iowa, Wis, or NW IL, I know what I'd do.
Sometimes staying home and hunting is the best option too, and nowadays that is getting to be the best option for many of us.
I'm thankful when a southern club draws northern entries, but I sure don't expect them regularly nor would I expect them to expect us up there. Down here in SE MN, just like out of state entries, you don't expect them but are thankful when you can get them.
