How long after they stop bleeding is it safe to go back to the woods and not have to worry about them hooking up with another dog or something else?

"You should consider your dog to be "in season" for 21 days: 7 days coming into heat, 7 days in heat, 7 days going out. Though conception is most likely during the middle 7 days, Mother Nature doesn't always follow the rules. Confine your dog for the entire 3 weeks."

Thanks. I wasn't sure when she came in for sure so I was trying to wacth the bleeding to determine when it was safe to go again.

You have a couple more weeks... at least... after the bleeding stops. The bleeding is the "Coming in" stage.

If you have a male dog handy take him around her every once and a while see if he shows interest in her. He will let you know when she is out.

This is something I have just always done. You won't believe how helpful it can be.

I keep very close track of when my females start their heat, the days they flag, and how long it looks like they are still in heat. I still always maintain their security for the entire 21 days just to play it safe.

Having this information can be very useful if and when you decide to breed a female. It can also indicate any changes in your female through her lifetime.

Many times it is very easy for me to predict when females next cycle will start and end. I have a female right now that is heat. I told my sons to watch for her to start a week in advance. Seven days after they told me she started.

My Wife keeps it all on our yearly calender plus keeps all the old calenders for years !! But She will tell me which female is coming in and sure enough She will be very Close !! Unless we bring in another Female that Cycles Sooner !! Then Our Schedules are all Screwed Up till the Next Set of Cycles ..

When a Female is Getting close we will Check Daily with a white Tissue till they come in..

If I'm just showing a female 3 weeks and sometimes a bit less but if I'm doing much of anything else around males it may be 4 weeks before they're not a bit smelly.

I was used to dogs coming in every 6 months. This dog came in last memorial day and now about 9 months instead of 6 months. She doesn't swell as much as other dogs so I always have to keep a close eye on her. Must be why I always used to hunt male dogs. This too will pass. Keep em in the woods.

I agree that the bleeding is just letting you know she's coming into heat. It's after the bleeding stops that she is most likely to be receptive and conceive. Just cause you don't see any blood spots in the pen anymore definitely doesn't mean it's safe to turn her back out.
