ANOTHER feed ????

Does anyone feed Diamond All Natural?
I have been feeding Purina, and was told BY MT VET that this was better feed for the $ as well as getting the end result that I am looking for with my hounds.

I have a VERY picky eater and have tried almost everything.....any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I feed the Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete. My dog loves it. I have never seen anything that won't eat it. It even smells good to me. It doesn't have any corn so they are getting real nutrition, not just fake protein thru corn.

I fed it untill I moved up here last summer and its harder to find. I wound up switching to costco's kirkland food which is about the same as diamond naturals only a lot cheaper. If you have a costco near by check it out.

I will probably get bashed for saying this like I always do but I hated the stuff. Loose stool and the dogs never looked as good as they do on Pro Plan. They couldn't price this stuff low enough for me to feed it.

Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete works for both me and the hounds. If you feed too much, you'll get loose stool as it is fairly "rich" for a dogs digestive system if you haven't worked their metabolism up high enough through hunting/work. Stick to the amounts on the bag and you'll be fine. Have enough sense to know to +/- a 1/2 cup more or less depending on what you see come out the other end and overall conditioning level. Its kcal is much higher (over 700 higher) than High Standard's competitive formula. Thats a good indicator that the ingredients are a little better quality. IMO

Sounds like I will go get a bag. Thanks so much for the input. My male has checked out great at the vet, but I am having a very hard time getting him to settle down to eat.

Hope this helps! I am really wanting to get him in a show very soon!

Ok....

he ate it! Just feed, nothing mixed in.....thank you Lord!

It was MUCH cheaper then what I have been spending and I bought it at a local feed dealer just 1 mile from home!

Save money, the dogs like it and not have to go to town! Who could ask for more!

i will bet you made an abrupt food change if your hounds had loose stools from diamond naturals. i know of many people that changed over from another food and none of them had loose stools.
any time you change foods if you don't make a gradual food change a dog will have loose stools.
i have seen this over and over again, and have seen people change back to what they were feeding and guess what the dogs got loose stools all over again. many people switched from pro plan when the weight was reduced and the price raised enough quit useing it in my area that dealers stopped carrying it most switched to diamond naturals because a dog requires less food and stays in better condition making the food even more reasonable

He was fed his new feed with old mixed in last night, and he ate good. Again this AM, he ate with no problem. It even smells good. I am so glad I found an all around feed that is more affordable for all my dogs~inside and out!

So long Purina......!

Be careful how often you feed him. This food is pretty rich. He can only assimilate a certain volume in a 24 hour period. Any food fed above and beyond his individual assimilation rate will cause the whole shootin' match to turn into loose stool. On this feed, I have never had to feed twice a day. Once, and always in a 30 minute window after hunting when he needs it the most. Good luck with it!

I know it's better to feed dogs within that 30 minute window after exercise but what are you to do if you can't get home from hunting within 30 minutes? Some times I take two dogs and hunt one for awhile & then put him in the box while I hunt the other one so what do you do take feed with you & feed them there?

I am very careful with the feeding amounts when I feed. I have a cup that I measure with. He is getting 1 1/2 cups in the AM then again in the evening. Dry in the AM and I mix some "stuff" ~ natural stuff~ in the evening.

All my hounds are fed that way. I don't like the idea of shoving the whole amounts at them at one time. We eat more then once a day, don't we? Just makes since that dogs should as well!

Thanks, I will watch him! Keep your fingers crossed that he will gain some weight! I am ready to get him going in OB and Conf events!!!!

Actually yes. If I forget to take feed, like we did this past Saturday, we stopped off and grabbed a couple cans of tuna from a roadside store. Didn't have any feed bowls in my buddy's box so we snatched a chili dog holder and used it. lol We just needed to get some protein in their body. An hour and a half ride home and then fed their regular feed. I only am concerned with it if they hunt for 3-4 hours hard. Usually I hunt within 30 minutes or so of my house so I rarely am concerned with taking feed with me. I got caught with my pants down on this last one so I had to get a little creative and figure out what was open at 11 pm out in bfe that would have something containing a good amount of protein that we could feed. Tuna fit the bill. If you can't do it, you can't do it. It ain't the end of the world. Just something that I strive for though. They usually "earn" it

I bought the Chicken and Rice formula to get them started on....I paid 23.00 with tax and all and I think the bag was 40 lbs.

MUCH better then what I have been paying for Purina and I can say that my Wade is eating it just fine! All my dogs are....house dogs too,
