RICKETS??

I'm curious to know if your are talking about RICKETS? Which is a Vitamin D deficiency? It actually pretty common and treatable in pups...
I ask because I had Vit. D deficiency a couple of yrs ago myself...as an adult HUMAN... and some beginnings of the adult form of Rickets... it pretty much SUX to get it... but I take lots of Vit D and a good amount of calcium and a good diet.... and sunshine. Around here there is only vit d from sunshine during the spring and summer months.
I am sorry to see you had a problem with your pup. I followed the progress of those pups and lots of lightfoot pups on here since I love their looks...
If you do a search on here for Rickets you will find out alot about it....
If it wasn't RICKETS... then pardon me for butting in and I'm still sorry about what happened ....

Heather

I thought RIckets was diet and codliver oil? I know cod liver oil has Vit D. I was glad I wasn't sick with this as a kid cause Cod Liver oil would have been the "cure" and I think I would BARF it up! The vit. d capsules they gave me in the beginning are a FATAL does to a normal person... Bob and I "joked about it" before I took that first pill... but I am pretty sure that we BOTH prayed that the doctors hadn't messed up my bloodwork! It is pretty unusual for people in THIS country to get as low as I did... It has actually been a few yrs now and we still aren't 100% sure WHY I got so sick... I follow much better diet but nonetheless the give me large amounts of calcium and vit d. There is a chance this is 100% from my childhood diet. I was NOT a milk drinker...I ate lots of cheese so my parents assumed I got enought calcium BUT our fortified MILK and now cereals etc... are the sources of vit d Not Cheese...Big Oops... We have one son who won't drink milk and he gets calcium with Vit D.
I imagine diet is VERY important in sport dogs... I know the diet we fed our retired greyhounds was important and they live long lives for big dawgs... I haven't raised pups since... oh, about 1985 when I had 2 German Shep. dogs... and I don't plan on raising any! ever....

OK.. sorry I started to babble... LOL... Heather

it was a form of knuckling over. more in the tendons and ligaments than the bones. groth plates are x rayed and ok. i bet having the human form would be terrible. glad to hear your healed up, and i also seen where you were getting close to being able to go on a hunt again? i wish you the best and take the camera when you get back out there..

Yes... feel pretty ready to GET to the woods with our friends once the WEATHER allows! LOL... I despise winter! AND...we WILL have camera along!!! Have to keep fingers crossed that I don't injure anything new or get sick...LOL... Now that my Vit D levels are nearly normal I find my immune system is working well again. It is good to have explanations for SOME of what was going on. NOW... if we could reverse AGING and take away all the after effects of my brain injury.. oh, world peace and a change in the economy too while we're at it!
Glad the growth plates are FINE in that pup! I know I've seen that sort of stuff in the horses...back in my horse days.
Have a Good day! HEather
