Ours said that last year. It went from $14.88 for a 55 pound bag to $20.88 for 50 pounds. They didn't carry it for two months, but so many people complained and stopped buying food there that the manager said he had to order it again to keep the customers happy. There are several BIG kennels (50+ dogs) that buy it from them.

So now we have it again, but it's $21.88 for 50 pounds. Still cheaper than we can find Diamond, which we used to feed until it killed two of ours dogs in the last recall. So guess we're stuck with it. Otherwise, we pay $27.99 a bag for it at TSC and it's only 40 pounds.

I think our Sams still carries Dog Chow and it is about $22. They have their own store brand "Members Mark" that they say compares to Dog Chow and sell it for $18 for 50#. Have another one that compares to Hi Pro. I don't know if these two match up to those Purina foods they are using for comparison. I don't know, are Sams and Purina teamed up? By this I mean is Purina bagging food for Sams to market under their store brand? I think the large dog food producers do a lot of that and keep it under wraps. I don't try all these...but I do look! It's something of interest to me.

Johnny it is all manufactured by Purina, and is the same as Dog Chow and High Pro. You might as well save a few bucks I compared the ingredients one day.

Wonder why some people hate Purina? Got run over by a Purina dog?

The price of Purina keeps going up and the bags get smaller, in fairness, it seems to be the same with all feed.

A guy cant help but feel a little jerked around by this, the whole circle game gets a little old too, it needs to be simplified IMO.

I went to look at the Pro Plan a few weeks ago. Cost went up 2$ from a year ago and I decided against it.
Purina is owned by Nestle and is run as a corporate company and sell their products as such. I dont like shopping at the Petcos and wallmarts/Sams for my feed. I like to spend my money with the local feed store where I know Joe and he and I can carry on a conversation. But I have had to fall back on them and feed it with good results. Last year I went :45 mins to my Sams club and they were out, that didnt sit well so I switched again...

I can relate to that too. I like to support the local man if I can. In my case there is no local man. I go to Columbus Ga at least once a week and to Sam's ... so it is not out of my way at all. I like to save the money as well. It costs money to keep hounds. Money is tight these days!

ive seen prices of purina go down, atleast at costco where i buy it from. for 32 and some change you can get purina 1 lamb and rice, and out of 16 bags bought, 10 of those 16 you can use your 7 dollar checks bringing the price down to 25 and change-a great deal. plus they are open 7 days a week and always have it in stock!

We've got two "local men" but their prices are much higher, I'm all for supporting the locals but they must have a competitive price for me to do so, and you would think a feed store that doesn't sell groceries, clothes, electronics, etc. would be able to compete on feed prices.

Sams Members Mark dog food is the same as the Purina Dog Chow, but our store sells the Members Mark for only a dollar less than the Purina. Since we're in the Purina pro club, we make more by spending the $1.00 more and using the purina points.

We feed our pregnant, nursing, and house dogs Pro Plan. Tried PetCo last week since I was in the neighborhood. TSC sells our Pro Plan lamb and rice for $34.99 for 40 pounds. PetCo was $42.99!! Aren't they like, supposed to be a dog and cat place? Wondering how they can justify their prices?

why would someone pay20 plus dollars for dog chow when they could buy a better mat based food for that money
i'm a little sick and tired hearing about diamond killing dog purina has had the same problem and never advertised the fact nor did a recall sunshine mills had the same problem but had a recall.
how soon we forget about purina killing off thousand of cattle a few years back with insecticide in there mix.
the past is just that the past. the problem diamond had was with a mold on corn that could have started after the corn was tested just like the other dog food manufacturers had at times

How about trying Hi-Standard dog food. I have been feeding it for over 2 years now and my dogs look great and hunt even better. I feel it is the best dog food on the market today. Check out this website for more info and a distributor near you. Hi-Standarddogfood.com

Purina

Join the Pro Club if your going to feed Purina, you just have to cut your weight circles off the bags and mail them in to Purina for rebate checks. I'm not sure how much they give for hi pro as I feed Purina One or Pro Plan, but when I get enough weight for points,I get 10 rebate checks for 7.00 off per bag.A 44# bag of One at Sam's is 35.00,and I get 6-8 bags at a time, so the checks really help out. We've fed Purina almost 10 years and at first I thought it was crazy to spend that much on feed until we went to one of those mid winter bench shows, had 3 different people ask me what I bathed the dog with, dog hadn't been bathed in over 6 months. These dogs hunt coon, coyote and bobcats in winter, cold, snow doesn't bother them and they can go all day long.

I'm a Pro Club member and I do the weight circle thing to help out with it. I don't like the bother of it though and wish they'd do something to cut the cost when you buy it. I know it's big business and they use the checks to keep you hooked. I think I'm right that they have dropped Hi Pro from the weight circle program and don't offer it any more. Some of the Purina foods do not have weight circles on the bags. I'm thinking I might go back to Members Mark Exceed lamb and rice which I fed for many years and it worked for me. It's comparable to ONE. $28 off the shelf.

Wayne...Do you by chance feed diamond? I noticed how you love to knock Purina and praise Diamond. I have never fed Diamond so I can't give an opinion of it. I have however fed a lot of different Purina foods and they are all good. Some better than others. None of them make dogs sick if they are changed over properly and dogs do quite well on them.

I'm sure you firmly believe in what you are saying about dog foods and other dog related subjects but I think you may be putting to much confidence in the evidence you THINK you have found online or heard.

Man was a meat eater to begin with...back when they were still carrying clubs but it has been discovered that even man is better off with more grains and veggies in his diet.

I feed purina and am happy with it. I have fed chow, hi pro and purina one. I do not like now they have 44 pound bags, I liked the 50 pounders. My male gets poor on Hi Pro can not figure that one out. I also belong to pro club, and use rebates they help out. As for sams feed at walmart fed two bags once and you could see dogs loosing weight. I also had enough purina points built up to get my garmin with. Really liked that.

Wayne...

Well, I don't raise cattle and never have so pardon if I don't care what happened with them years ago....

What I do raise is alpacas and dogs.
There was a recall on food a few years ago that killed hundreds of alpacas. And we're not talking about a few hundred dollars loss here folks, that's a loss of $8,000 + for every death! So we changed feeds and stuck with the one we changed too.

Same thing a few years ago with the Diamond dog food recall, we lost two nice dogs. The oldest and the youngest we owned. Switched to Purina and liked it. We haven't fed Diamond since, wouldn't even without that occuring though because of the price in our area.

We have over the last 10 years tried Eukanuba, Science Diet, Diamond, Members Mark, Natures Best, and all kinds of Purina. Purina dog chow and Pro Plan are the best combination for us.

Personally, I don't care what someone's elses opinion is on my feed or how much I spend on it. It's my money, my dogs, and I'll feed what I want. And what should it matter to me what you feed? Why should I get upset if you spend $20+ on a bag of feed? It's not my money, so none of my business.

Around here the best prices/size for purina dog food seems to be Wal-Mart, they carry them in 18kg(40lb) bags, Puppy Chow is around $20 and Beniful Healthy Raidance was $31 last day I checked, where as the grocery stores most times all you can get is 8kg(18lb), $15 for Puppy Chow and $20 for Beniful Healthy Raidance.
