From my experience, they don't exactly bring them to you, you have to be in a spot where they may cross, to see the game they're chasing. Occasionally they may catch a coyote, only times I've seen deer caught were when they were wounded, also a lot of the deer killed when running dogs may be slipping out due to the disturbance in the area and some of the time when the dogs are running a deer, the deer may be so far ahead of the dogs they are just slipping through or running and stopping...... Hope this helps.

Running deer with dogs is very similar to hunting rabbits with beagles except on a larger scale. Most deer killed with dogs are not actually being run by the dogs but rather are slipping out away from where the dogs are running. It's really a social event as much as hunting most of the time.

You can usually kill more deer still hunting than you can dog hunting. Dog hunting is really a better discription because you spend as much time getting the dogs back as you do deer hunting.

I keep

deer dogs and during the season walk them for our deer club, they run the deer across our standers.I believe more deer are killed with the use of dogs than still hunters because their more selective about what they shoot than someone standing waiting on the deer to be chased across them.I like hearing them run more than anything.Rarely do they catch the deer until it is downed by buckshot. Some times getting the dogs up is a lengthy process but we keep on hand a few packs that day ready to go.Been doing this for about 25 years. HOUNDS are a very important necessity for the control and harvest of game animals big and small, and the most ethical.Dont run a hunting dog of any kind without a tracking devise,it saves time and money getting them up.I still hunt also, dogs running throuh dosent botther me much, killed a few nice deer that way.
