looking for ideas to make clubs/state stronger

just curious as to some things that have worked for others in making the local clubs and state as a whole stronger in terms of:

-participation at hunts
-financially
-youth
-friendship/commraderie

any and all ideas are appreciated.

thanks

#1 thing to improve participation:
good food/kitchen. Our kitchen can make the difference between a financially successful event and a loss. Regular attendance by vendors also helps. Also guides that can put people in coon. The #1 club killer in our state has been insufficient guides.

our club has offered leashes/collars/gift certificate alternative to trophy. For many with a closet full of dusty trophies, this is much appreciated.

The water races have been very popular at our club. They are great for spectators, even if your dog isn't in them.

Our winter business meetings take place at a bar--the clubhouse is unheated. We keep 'em short, and spend plenty of time swapping lies about our hunting adventures. Way too many clubs put people off by arguing the small stuff at business meetings, making them long and boring.

at state level, the NY Houndsmen offer strong legal assistance to hunters who get in trouble while obeying the law--dogs shot, etc. That motivates many people to participate in the state organization who wouldn't otherwise.

The state youth hunt is very successful providing lots of free stuff to participating kids, supplied by local businesses. This includes dog food, hunting/fishing gear, etc.
