Can anyone tell me what to use to keep the coyotes away from my coon hounds while hunting?

thin them out during the day. call them in and use your weapon of choice. I started hunting them because they were coming in on my hounds, and now I enjoy it just as much as coon hunting.

I think the best thing we`ve found is a few rounds in their direction, their smart, if they think your gunning for them the disappear fast when the dogs show up.

put a lighted flashing collar on your hound the yotes will still come in but won't touch your hound i never had a problem sinse useing the lighted collar

Find some guys that hunt them with hounds and let them in your spots a few times. We had some guys run hounds on them around here, now they associate hounds with death and stay away.

I agree with the lighted collar idea. Hardly anything else does any good.

I have had people tell me to use bells or lighted collars. High powered rifle worked very well in deer season.

I believe we have conditioned them to come in by giveing them a free skinned meal by most trees. However never had any problems.

i have sean yots kill dogs while coon hunting and more than one time and we was running and shooting 2 nilon 66 and the yots never payed attion the us hollern or shooting and both times it was dee adking dogs that was killed they never left till we was at least 25 yards from them and both times it was in flemmilg county ky and i have had them run several dogs off the tree but the new flassing lights made by tracker i have not had them run a dog off tree cence i started useing them when they first come out.also sean one of dees dogs eat up that lived had over 200 holes in it and around 30 small drain tubes in the dog and it lived and never hurt it a bite about hunting and every yot atack i have sean at least 4 dogs was treed it was like they singeled out one at a time but the others fite them yots but was not even hurt one bit.

I had one of my coyote hounds casterated by a big male. he was fighting with a wounded coyote and the big male came in on him

they need a bounty put on them, make them worth something and maybe more people will kill them, kill em all, but they are here for good. 15 years ago i heard there were hardly any at all in ohio. my dad traped one in 85 in a #1 he had set in a crick for muskrat and the crick froze over. the coyote steped in the right spot and broke through the ice. But he said you never heard of anyone catching any. I doubt this is true but i heard the dnr realeased a bunch to control the deer population, i also heard they crossed the lake from michigan, i also read in the field and stream that the eastern coyote was a hybrid with wolf,but i also hear a lot of things.

did you ever stop to think that would kill more dogs than yot dum stuff like that is wat gives hunters and trapers a bad name and a dun ass in this county tryed that one winter and killed some dogs and yots where to smart 4 that he said it did not work but he had about 10 dyehard fox hunters that wounted to kill him becalws he killed some of there dogs that was about 15 years ago.i think they broke a few fingers 4 him then it stoped .PLEASE THINK LONG AND HARD BEFOR YOU TRY SMOTHING THAT STUPIED PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF ALL US THAT LOVE OWER HOUNDS and i also wish they would out law snares all to geather becalws it kill dogs as well,yes i am a hunter and TRAPER

trap em, and M Mauger, traveller used to jump higher than 6 ft. so i know that if it were to be her she woud git caught. im just sayin that. im not tryin to be sarcastic. usually if i say somethin like that i git cussed off here for about a few months.

Well I read through this post and just had to kick in a comment. We run yotes 6 days a week and have over the 50 mark so far this yr. The one guy that runs with us runs BT beagles and they can kick a 60 lb yotes ass. I run BT and Redbone and if they turn on the dog they are in trouble.
When coon hunting usually they come in when they have young and you are in the area of the den or the young are packed up and come in to the dogs bark. If you or the dog show fear they pick up on it. If you show no fear and kick there ass they will run. I have had them so close to the young dogs treeing that I could see there eye's but never had an issue as the dogs attacked them and not vice versa. Here are a few pics to back up this post.
