You said be specific and so I will. Few if any these days have traveled as many miles behind a trailing lion hound as Hal Mecham. He's been breeding big game hounds for over forty years, hunting all over the west, catching tough lions in the dirt, mud, snow, and ice for much longer than I've known him and he lives for the sport.
Mecham has crossed his big game hounds into other stains that were and are hunted by some of the most famous men chasing lions, men that hunted the mountains, the desert, year round, for bounty and for a payday, men that road horses and mules and hammered out many a lion track afoot. Yes, these hounds are not only proven but proven through time and proven by hunting with the best and toughs men that ever followed or trained a hound, so I hope that is more specific......
Most all of the hounds I hunt today came from the old southern Utah bloodlines that were develped from the breeding that Hal Mecham has done, and if there is a harder pounding bred hound in the West I'd like to see them............
But the answer to your question is there are tons of hard trailing tough, cold nosed hounds out there tied up across the west. If you like the color, many of those hounds will do the job you need. But remember the bottom line is a person has to take a well bred hound and hammer the crap out of that dog on game to make a top end dog, cause none of them ever catch much o the chain.............

my hounds on a bear catch, hounds that will do it year round in the dirt..

My Kody dog out of my blue Ryan dog goes back to Mecham hounds and two of the toughest, hardest trailing hounds I've ever been behind....

Griz and Ru Lui both out of Ryan, two ground pounding, hard treeing, tough footed, fast machines.........
Keep'em treed,
ike
