Blaine and Chuck .. Raw Feed

This is what I picked Up yesterday .. He "Split" Himself on the Ice , The Farmer was rather Upset as this Bull was the Best he ever had. The Farmer Said he was 1800#s !! Well lets just say I had to ask the Farmer for a "Bigger Gun" !!!

Now I did all the Skinning and Quarting while this Beast was Still on the Trailer with the Help of the 4 wheeler .. Then De-Boned all the Meat and Started Grinding it ..

I have found that Using it Ground makes it much Easier to use..

He was 12' Long !! Yesterday Morn. at 11:30

I have been Feeding about 40-50% Raw Beef with Dry Feed. The Problum is that out of 3 Head of Cattle this Winter their isn't Enough Fat on these Cattle .. Dairy Cows have No Fat at All !!!! Even this Angus only had about 5% Fat if that !!

I'am still working on just how much Raw to Dry Feed I should be using ..

Now their is a Huge Amount of Dairy Cattle that Split their Hind Quaters !!! 2 weeks ago I got a call on a Dariy Cow that Hung Herself in the Feeder Head Stalls ..

Guys Theirs alot of Free Hound Feed out their !! It has taken me about 12 Hours to Grind this size of Beast..

Like I said I do it all Right on the Trailer You Skin Half then De-Bone Half ..

I got 498# off one Half .. Once you have it Boned out on one Side you have to Gut them.. I Pull the Trailer to a Hill on our Property, Then Back Down and Start Gutting .. You just Roll it off the Trailer .. Very Easy !!

Then you have to Flip them over and do it again !!!!

All you'l have left is Bare Bones ... I just Wish I had a Bone Grinder !!!

Maybe I'l try Renting a Tree Chipper Grinder ????? LOL

By the Way His Heart Barely Fit in a 5 Gal Bucket.. His Liver Filed 2-5 gal Buckets

I Did Not Cut the Tripe Out "Yet" this will be another 50#s of Feed ...

The Biggest Shock I had was once the Farmer had Loaded Him on my Trailer he ask me "Do I owe you Anything for Hauling him Off" !!! NO I'am GOOD I Said !!

Never ask a man what kind of dog he has. If he has a hound he'll tell you, if he does not, you don't want to shame him by asking.

WOW!

Look at the size of that HOOF! Love to see meat like this get used! Wish we had a way to do it here.. our dogs eat venison and rice and chicken and rice kibble... they would go to town on raw venison! The breeder of our BnT(an akc showdawg breeder) uses the raw diet only. She feeds raw chicken, bone in. Her dogs live forever... I get too grossed out by the smell of raw chicken...after keeping live chickens here and dealing with injuries etc... I just gag too easily.
Our greyhounds ate kibble mixed with a meat and rice meal I made for them(that the kids LOVED when I added spices)... A mix of veggies, whatever meat you choose and the rice...I had to stop using it since the coonies wouldn't eat kibble if they knew the other food was here. Before the greyhounds retired from racing they got that same meal only the meat was raw mixed in with the rice, veggies and kibble.

SOrry I began to ramble... the wind is HOWLING and I'm avoiding chores...LOL...
happyButchering and feeding! Heather

I wouldn't feed them any kibble - just the raw. They will thrive on it. Make sure they get some good bones to chew on too!

Steve

Looks like you got the switch hooked up just fine. Man I could do some damage if I had the grinder here. Milk replacer is an excellent way to add fat. It is pretty expensive per bag but no more than you have to add to the dog food it lasts a long time. Just a thought!

I was reading a thread over on Drew's Site and their was a thread on RAW Feed and their was a Formula for it..

You take the Dogs Weight and X it by .02 then X it by .75 Protien

So if my Hounds are 100# it would be 100 X .02 = 2.0 lbs. of total Feed

Then the 2.0 X .75 = 1.5 Lbs of the Raw Beef plus .5 Lbs of fats and other Nurishments .. Grains/Veg.s ect

So I have 1,936 lbs of Dogs at the Moment (Gezz I had NO IDEA)

1936 X .02 = 38.72 # of total Feed per Day

38.73 X .75 = 29# of Stright Meat and 9.72# of Fats and Other ..

I was Feeding 50# of 26/18 Dry Per Day and 6 gals of Water ..

Their Water Consumtion has Droped to around 3-1/2 Gal. (Sence this Meat is Fresh Ground It Has a Huge Amount of Water in it)

Good lord Steve.......all that math has got me wondering....

I grind up about 20 deer/year.....The best corn/bean/alfalfa feed around LOL......I know this b/c they hammer our fields hard every year....
I normally do 60% dry, 40% raw......I'm thinking a bit of the milk replacer might not be a bad idea, since my Dry is 26/18......but maybe not......

I guess I need to start using a measuring cup and scale

Milk replacer

It works wonders. I havent been feeding it to the hounds yet but we do feed it to our show stock to put the pounds on. A cup will last us about 3 days in our show mix so not sure about how much to feed the dogs. I do know it is about $80 a bag down here for a 50 lbs bag.On the other hand we bought a 50 lbs bag last july and still using it.

That's a lot of coyote bait left on that trailer and I would of made meatsicles out of the guts fill a drywall bucket 2/3 full add water to fill, freeze outside and sight in the long gun on live targets.

Steve~
I have had some ???'s about feeding raw and someone sent me this link.
GOOD for you! I grew up on a dairy farm, and I can remember when something happened to one of our cows, we buried it. I always thought it was such a waste!!!

Anyway, my ?? is about bones. Raw chicken bones.....are they OK? I have read on here that a lady gives her dogs a "chicken leg" every couple days....

Just wanted to be sure they are raw....I'd hate to hurt one of my hounds because I didn't ask....

Thanks!

HEy Cleo, It is just me, Heather Our BnT's breeder(the weird AKC dawg) feeds a raw diet. Her dawgs all get (GROSS) raw chicken...LOL! I had to feed one of her males while we were at a show in KY and I was so grossed out... living on a chicken farm I HATE raw chicken.... Anyway... she feeds chicken backs, bone and all... they get calcium from those bones. Also RAW bones help keep a dog, wolf, yote etc... teeth clean. It is cooked bones that splinter....
VERY important to keep the meat safe, esp. raw chicken! Be sure to keep it frozen or refrigerated correctly unless you are lucky enough to feed fresh kill.... The biggest thing to be careful of is YOUR health... since you can get sick from handling raw meat if it is infected.
Later, Gator! Heather

good idea

i might start feeding my dogs deer meat next year sounds like a good idea. the idea of feeding chicken bones scares me i've heard of dogs choking on them in the past. one last thing the last thing in the world i'd feed one of my dogs is a dairy cow. i work on a dairy farm in my free time and maybe it is just the farm i work on but these dairy cows aren't fit for a possum when they are alive let alone my dogs when they have killed over.

Hey Steve

I got a good deal goin with a buddy of mine. He brings me front quarters off of cows skinned already from his work. I get 6 at a time works pretty darn good and cuts my work in half. I can get as many as 30 a week if I want. They are not getting ground up yet but hopefully in the near future we will get our grinder.
