Hunt Question

4 dog cast, all dogs are struck, A,B,C and D. A is treed then B ,, C and D are still on track when the five is up, as we go in to the tree the judge is 30 feet ahead and hollars back that my dog (A) is off the tree and is minused. as I climb up the bank I see my dog sitting at the base of the tree and he has never quit treeing. I questioned the call . The judge was the only one that seen this . The other guys said they never seen a thing but they would have to go with the judge. Did I get scammed? By the way the Judges dog and dog D came into the cast after we got there. I questioned the call and the master of hounds rulled in favor of the judge since the others went along with him.

Why would you even question it? You didn't see, the judge did. Take your minus and move on.

Only you know your dog and if it might have been off the tree, But the reason the judge is supposed to be the first one to the tree is to make that determination. I always try to be right on the judges heels when we get close, especially to the first tree.

The judge makes all calls and the there are only three things a cast has to vote on that the judge doesn't make a call on. Calling timeout, if it is a previously scored tree, and scoring a tree( +, -, or O points). All other calls are left up to the judge and if you don't agree you ask for a vote and then if you don't agree with the vote you question. In my opinion most judges ask for a vote on way to many things.

In my opinion "if the dog never stopped treeing" you probably did get scammed. I had this happen in a hunt where the judge and his me too dog was down 400 points and my dog was treed barking every breath and he was standing of the tree with his belly against the tree. The judge tried to minus me because he said the dog wasn't there. So I walked the judge around the big tree to the other side where he was treeing.

Sounds like you got a judge that found an easy way to get you a minus. Where was the hunt at?

It is probably tha easiest way for a crook to take you out of a hunt when you consider it can easily make a 400 point difference in your score. I had a guy try to minus my dog by saying she barked on the ground because he had heard that was justification for a minus on tree, when she was actually treeing on a hole at the base of a Den. Your only defense is to try and keep the cast tight going in.
