 Newbie alert!

Hey guys! I am a newbie to the coonhound world! Just got my first 2 Treeing Walker Coonhounds! I am brand new and want to learn the ropes so eventually I can start showing and competing in youth events! (I come from the horse show world!) Anyways here are pics of my 2 pups. I would appreciate any advice given! I have IM, MagicMansChic on AIM and YIM and BHFBayBe on MSN and email is BrookeHollow@triad.rr.com

Welcome!!! Enjoy and have fun.

Let me tell you that loading to go to the dog show/hunt is soooo much easier that getting the "ponies" ready to go to the horse show. Did it for 20 years and, now, I truly enjoy myself when working with the hounds, and visiting with the folks at the shows/hunts.

Just an fyi -- use up your show sheen on the dogs if you bathe for the show, and a little pepi on their coat right before their class is legal. Also am using up my horse fly spray on the dogs.

Ah a fellow greenhorn. well I've had a year off an on...
A) Read Vickie Lamb's "Dynamics of Hound Training"
B) Read this message board.
C) Find a coonhunting club near you and join.
D) Listen so to speak to your dogs. probably similar to listening and learning from horses. the way they move and think, respond and have their own personalities. similar to people.

The dog in the head on pic looks like she means business.

Enjoy. Be patient. Learn as you go.

They are nice pups, but I will tell you it is hard enough training one, I see you have two. I would only train one at a time, or they both will have each others bad habits. Good luck.

Thanks you guys! In your opinion, which would my time be spent better on training? The male or the female? If the female wouldn't it be in my best interest to neuter the male so he can be a buddy? (since they are brother and sister) I know in horses that sex makes a ton of diffrence!!!

 Rulebook

Coming from the horse world, you had to carry a breed rulebook in your hip pocket . . . . lol. If you private message me your address I will mail you a current year UKC rulebook for your perusal. (I have one to spare.) Then subcribe to the Coonhound Bloodlines magazine (similar to your equine breed journals with all show/hunt info, ads, event winners etc. ) and you will recieve a rulebook and, I believe, Kellam's Coonhound Advisor. It has case situations of the nite hunt honor rules. Start reading and know the rules.
