I have had both. I had a sportdog 2400 and a tritronics trashbreaker XLS. IMO the sportdog was a fine shocker for around the house and obedience training. It simply was not as powerful or as durable as the tritronics product in the woods and in real hunting situations.

I got them both around the same time. I still use the trashbreaker (with replaced batteries) but the sportdog has been out of commission for about 3 years now. I am sure I could get it redone, but it just wasn't worth it.

Would it be worth the money?

I have used Dogtra for years and won't use anything else. The vibrate is a great come command and they don't have to hear it. So you can still call them even if they are running threw brush or around other noise like a treeing dog. They have a ryhistat switch so you can give them any level of shock you want. They are allso tough as nails..............Law enforcement and trainers has use them for years..........

Years ago my dad would tell me "always buy the best you can afford, you won't regret it". He was right.

If you want my personal opinion, I would go to www.collarclinic.com and pick up a rebuilt system for the money that you have. You will get a system that is more or less new, but without the new price tag.

I have a Tri Tronics Classic 70. Had it several years. Rated at up to one mile. It is as advertised. Works great for me. It has the tone feature and is tough. You can replace the batteries yourself when needed. Order parts for it from Tritronics. Don't cost you an arm and a leg either. One of the rubber plugs that covers the charging terminal on my collar got broken and I called to order one. They sent me a whole pack free of charge. I'm happy with mine. Only wish I had a two mile model because they are stronger and reach in the tough places better. I'd go with Tri Tronics again if I decided to get another one.

I have been a Tri-tronics user for years; with few exceptions, they have consistantly had the best product on the market for range and reliability. I have a G2, and it is absolutely the best I have ever owned. It is reliable, charges quick and is ready to use in two hours from 0. The most expensive shock collar is one that won't work after you have spent a good deal of time setting up a "situation" for a dog; if the product isn't reliable; it is useless. I have not turned a dog loose in the past ten years without a Tri-tronics collar on. Just my opinion. Tom

i have used tri-troinic for years tried a innotec at one time went back to a tri-troinic G-2 it worked ok for 1-1/2 years having problems now it never did have the range of my old one. thinking about trying a sport dog hound hunter but not sure ?
what i have seen over the years is whenever you get a good one KEEP IT ! dont worry about up dating like i did
4 out of 10 are good ones think mine was #5
