the garmin systems and other tracking systems was done away with would folks still hunt these go yonder get deep dogs? or would they cull them? i am talking about the dogs you never hear strike break out the tracker and find them treed or running 2 to 5 miles or more from you.

There was a time before tracking systems they done it..........My dad would tell me stories about all nighters cause of no systems to help locate the dogs.

Comp hunters don't want a go yonder dog and are breeding for quick strike and tree (and alot of slick treeing idiots) these days anyways.

I think die hard pleasure hunters would stick with what they got.........most die hard pleasure hunters are set in their ways on the breeding of the dogs they hunt with.

I do think some hunters would not want a go yonder dog without a tracking system -- the tools (toys) of today's hound hunting have spoiled alot of hunters.

There is still some out there hunting without all these fancy toys and not spoiled yet.

But since tracking systems are here and not going away, the thing that can and will have an impact is hunting land being swallowed by urban growth --- think how it was 25 year ago and now think how it will be in 25 years from now -- it will come to day where we have to travel a good piece just to turn out.

It wouldn't change the type of dog I hunt, but I might change where I'd be willing to turn them loose.

I just back from an attempt to run bobcats in Northern MN. We were equipped with 2 Garmin units and multiple collars. There ain't a chance in haitis I'd have ever cut my coondogs in daylight in foreign territory without the Garmin setup.

Not all competition winning dogs are go yonder idiots. But I do agree, we'd see a different style of dog being reproduced overall without tracking equipment.

There are many dogs bred to cover country quick and get treed with a raccoon. They win hunts. Nothing wrong with it. But if those dogs consistently need to get out of pocket to do it, a dog that will hunt the woods you put them in might just come out on top. I know which one I'd rather follow on a nightly basis.

i think the training and hunting method would change a little..as long as there still was a tritronic handy..

Used to hunt without a tracker all the time. Didn't know one existed. Spent many a night, ALL NIGHT riding around from ridge to ridge to listen for the dogs. One thing about it, dogs had to stay treed cause it might take us 3 hours just to find the dang thing let alone get to it. Heck back then we petted our dogs for treein possums and they were still out of pocket all the time. Not only was they no coon they wasn't many possums either.

Struck out of hearing alot then, still do now when I hunt back home. It's just somethin you gotta put up with when coons are scarce.

I wouldn't go back to huntin without a tracker unless they just made them illegal. I like knowin where my dog is. Heck I wouldn't go back to a beep beep unless they outlawed the Garmin.

in a few years people will forget how to hunt.if you hunt with someone that uses a gps tracker its more like video hunting.all they do is watch the screen and wait for the little dog to stand up then they go get there dog.granted there great tools and i think more dogs will be saved because you can see if there getting close to roads or other dangers.

the use of new aids for dog hunting will run the same way as new hunting equipment w/o dogs. people used to use flintlocks and then percussions and then modern guns. i guess there was those then that thought people were getting spoiled. some folks still think you're not a true sportman unless you use a homemade primative bow and arrows.

there is nothing wrong with a tracking system incase a dog gets outta pocket every now and then or if you can cut them off from a road etc. but to me if i have to break out a tracker to find my dog all the time that is not coonhunting to me that is what i call dog hunting. yep i have hunted a many a dog allnight a many a time that didnt have a tracker on. i like to hear my dog strike work the track and hear him when he starts treeing just going find him treed somewhere is not what i call coonhunting either. if i can hear my dog strike and working the track i dont need a tracker to tell me if he is getting close to the road etc. i myself like to listen to my dog and tell what he is doing instead of haveing to look at a screen to see.

yeah the hunting spots are gettin thin here too. alot of places it dont take a dog long to run out of relestate on the place you are hunting.
