On Dec. 15th our female had 4 females and 2 male pups. They are listed on here if anyone is interested in them but anyway I go out this morning to feed and I notice something hanging from the back of the female. I climb in the pen to take a closer look at her and check on the 6 pups when I notice that there were 7 pups. The 7th pup was still wet where she had just had him. I doubt he will survive. I have him in the house now trying to get some food down him cause she was nudging him away.

Guess my question is, has anyone seen a dog deliver another pup 5 days after she had the others?? I have never seen this before.

i had a beagle that had them for 3days only had 6 but they were spaced out . lost her and all the pups . good luck with your litter

A darn good reason to give the bitch a cleanout shot (oxytocin)within 24 hours after whelping. It helps prevent infections that can kill pups thru the milk. Uterus infections can kill a bitch also if bad enough.

I would get your female and the puppies to your vet right away for an exam. If the last puppy was retained for five days, there could be problems and, if you get it taken care of now, it might be better off for you, the momma dog and for the puppies. To be on the safe side, your vet may start your female on some antibiotics to try to prevent any uterine infection. He/she may also give her some oxytocin to help her uterus clamp down and contract to further prevent any infection.

I took the pup back out to the bitch dog lastnight and she took him right away. Checked this morning and a little while ago and the little **** is doing good. He is much smaller than the other 6 but he is sucking good and starting to fatten up some. Got an appt. with the vet tomorrow to check them over. The pups and the bitch dog are looking good.
