Does anyone make a coon lick feeder? Older guys will remember them.

I was wondering if anyone makes a coon lick feeder. I know you older guys remember the old cow licks. It was a square tank with 4 wheels and when the cow licked the wheel it would roll sorgum up on the wheel. They did it for protein.
The coon use to be all over those. I want to make some coon size but was wondering if someone allready does.

I think,

what you are talking about, was called MOREA TANKS or MO-MIX TANKS in this area?

They had a liquid mixture of MOLASSES, UREA, VITAMINS, & TRACE MINERALS in them, & when the cattle would lick the rollers the roller would turn & get more of the molasses mixture on the roller. The cattle loved them.

I buy a gallon of molasses for 6 dollars & change & pour a little into my coon feeders & some on the ground around the feeders & that seems as if it is the first thing that they go after.

Yea that is the thing I was talking about. I was thinking a person could make one coon size and the molasses would last a long time. Should make a pretty cheap feeder and easy to refill. You are the first one that said what you could get the molasses for. I havent called the elevator to price it yet. Just thought someone should be makeing these things. It would be a lot better than corn and tires. Almost no waste and if you mounted a board above them a deer couldn't get to it.

But what do you put the mixture in? The thing I am talking about it has to be liquid so it will come up on the wheel. All the coon has to do is lick the wheel and it turns. The bottom of the wheel is in molasses so when it turns the molasses comes up to were the coon can lick it off the wheel.

Well the cow ones are to big for coon. I priced the stuff they put in the licks Friday. It will cost me $ 1.00 a gallon. If you keep it to were the deer can't get to it a gallon will last a long time. They will come out of the wood work for sweets and it is a lot cheeper than corn. Oh and a lot easier to refill. Carry a gallon of liqued into woods and top off a lick.
If you want simple just pour it on a stump.
Not complicated, cheep and easy. I am lazy and cheap at heart.

Here is where I got the pic.
http://www.tank-depot.com/product.aspx?id=167

I would check in my area with the farmers may find a used one or a good place to get one. P.S. when I googled it they had plans to make some out of wood.

These aren't like the old ones but they show you what I was talking about. The old ones were just flat top square tanks with the top of a wheel sticking out. They were about 18 in. deap best I remember. We need some 2' square and about 6" deep. The coon couldn't carry them off, they would be easy to move when empty. If you put the wheel on one end you could even put a handle on the same end and carry it full.
I just sold my welder. Think I might have to get me one that will weld thin stuff or make one out of 2"x 6"'s and plywood. wonder how long it woud take for them to chew it up.

Made out of plywood, I would give them a week to 10 days to chew thru it.
