Lets Hear How U Do It On Squirrels And Coon

Lets say you have a nice pup between 8 months and a year old. Besides hunting it with older dogs, what do you do to train your pup up!

I dont hunt it with older, I hunt it by itself and make it figure out what it was bred for. Makes a better dog in the long run.

At the age of 6-months or so, I introduce the dog to the game in a live trap. let them bark at it. and turn the coon / squirrel loose and let them chase it up a tree. get them treeing on it. I do this a few times. Then I don't show them the game in the cage, I just go out and turn the game loose put the cage up where they can't see it. and turn the dog loose on the hot track... I do this along with running them with a GOOD trained dog... Your pup should be able to figure out what's going on in a matter of a couple of months... BUT all dogs are different.. I also will not hold them back if they want to walk in and investigate a coon fight.. Let them get wrapped up one time by a big coon they will learn quick...
