I am scared to hunt my dogs during this season in most woods. I have tracking collars on them at all times to make them look like hunting dogs and not just dogs. The problem is they need in the woods. What is the chances of having one shot in your alls experiences? I'm heading to a public area tommorrow and hoping not to run into a problem. I figure most hunters would not kill a dog just because it in the same woods. I bow hunt too and would never think about doing that but I have dogs. let me know what you think on the subject.

Hey I'm an avid bowhunter and guy that regularly hunts his cur dogs during the bowseason after squirrels. If I know that a fella deer hunts the property that I squirrel hunt, I usually try to hunt around noon and not the morning. I know, I am nervous that my dogs will linger under a bowhunters stand and most people I cannot trust. The hardcore deerhunters that have no concept of using dogs to hunt game are very hard to deal with. Sometimes I get no respect from them even though I can think of many times I've hunted my dogs and went deer hunting a little later in the same vicinity to bag a deer. It will always be a struggle with deer numbers on the rise, hunting leases, and more deer hunters. Your thinking is on the right track when you are hunting public property. Good Luck and hunt safe!!

I used to worry about it, but i don't anymore i hunt my dogs all the time, deer hunters or no deer hunters, i figure you just can't worry about everything, everytime you unsnap them something bad could happen etc....

I am very concerned about deer hunters. I use tracking collars, I have shocking collars on some dogs and use large reflecting collars on my squirrel dogs. I hunt a lot of private ground but I also hunt some public ground.

I first drive around the area I hunt looking for parked trucks. I never turn loose anywhere there are parked trucks. I wait until 10 or 11 AM before I go. Most deer hunters are out of the woods by then. I make plenty of noise and wear a lot of orange. I try to get along with any deer hunters I may meet.

So far, I haven't had a lot of trouble. I am carrying guns, I hope most deer hunters know this fact. I would do what ever it took in self defence and I would hold any deer hunter until authorities arrived if something happened to one of my dogs. I do carry a cell phone with the local sherriff on speed dial. And, I do sometimes hunt with law enforcement people.

I do worry more when I go on squirrel dog competition events. We often hunt state and federal managed land. I don't worry about some of the local deer hunters, they usually know me. But, on the competition events, I have no idea where I am at or who I might have to deal with.

I am NOT going to quit hunting my squirrel dogs.

We put an orange vest on our dog (it bukcles around his neck and flanks it doesnt bother him a bit) It may sound stupid but its a life saver for a dog that looks like a fawn with b\no spots. some idiots shoot whatever they see if they shoot him with that vest on. . . well its not gonna be good. I realy like the vest you can see him realy good so when we hunt public land i feel better about our dogs safety

as an ole huntin buddy once told me yougot just as much right to b in them woods as they do! i try to hunt private property to avoid this but if the deer hunter comes out of his stand and gets mouthy involve the land owener er just bust em in the mouth with the stock of the gun it works fer me!!!
