Just watched tailgate adventures

I just watched tailgate adventures for the second time. I take it as a slap in the face that a fellow coonhunter would stand there and let a squirrel hunter say a squirrel hunter will show you the squirrel and a coonhunter will not show you the coon. I thought this was a coonhunting show. Fellow hunters no matter what kind should not bad mouth each other.

First of all, the opinions implied or conveyed on the show are not necessarily those held by the show itself, Tailgate Adventures LLC or it's sponsors.

With that said, we have no intention of censoring anyone's opinions unless they are too obscene or vulgar for National Television. The fact is that opinions are as much of this sport as anything, and that which drives us. If we are to achieve the goal of this show in promoting and growing our sport, we need to understand the differing opinions and stereotypes, so that we can address the negative ones head on.

And yes, as the host, I may sometimes finish someones sentence or repeat what was said earlier in the hunt, to offer clarification, but that does not mean that I hold or share that opinion. I personally am a coon hunter and a competition hunter and hold many others like me in high regard.

And just to be clear, this is a hound and tree dog show, not just a coonhunting show.

Why don't all you negative people start saying good things about other people instead of bashing them all the time ? I bet you would be surprised at how well you start feeling and just the change in attitude will make you a more likeable person. Try it just once !!!

I am glad to see someone do a show on dog sports. We need to build a positive image.

Well it sure didnt give it to us...In my eyes anyhow.. Made it sound like coonhunters were cheats with not enough dog power..Sure it was a good show with good dog action but the coonhunter remarks could have been edited out...

You say we need to build positive images. Getting on TV and saying coonhunters do not show good sportmanship is not building that positive image. I have never seen a deer hunter on TV say turkey hunters are not honest. All the criticism coonhunters get from turkey hunters and deer hunters and they watch this show and squirrel hunters even say coonhunters are not trustworthy. I personally think its poor sportsmanship to put any type of hunting down. The antis do enough of that already. All hunters better stick together. Except the honest squirrel hunters.

Well if you want to look for people bad mouthing coon hunters you don't need to look any further than this message board. It is the nature of many people to think the way they do things is the only fair honest way to do it. Look at all the pleasure vs competition, ukc vs pkc posts. Those are coon hunters calling out coon hunters. Maybe the guy squirrel hunting is speaking from his experience. I don't like negativity about coon hunters put out on a national show, however since I didn't see it and I know the guys doing the show are coon hunters I will assume it didn't paint to bad of a picture of coon hunters.

Cutthroat - "characterized by each player playing independently rather than having a permanent partner", as defined by Merriam Webster.

This does not necessarily mean unsportsmanlike, and certainly does not mean dishonest. It absolutely does not mean a cheater or have anything to do with dog-power.

And again, I was paraphrasing a criticism I was hearing another hunter state. I was not bashing competition coon hunters, as I myself am one.

And for those of you that believe this will shed a negative light on us houndsmen in the eyes of other sportsman, trust me, deer and turkey hunters, etc. do not dislike us because of our behavior in competition events.

This is the last I'm going to say on this topic, but I did feel it was heading down a very bad path, where we houndsmen were once again turning on one another. I don't believe the comments made will be taken nearly as badly as the discussion it has spawned in this forum.

Boo... I saw the show the squirrel hunter made an honest statement. You see from my understanding the coonhunter has walker dogs. Now do you understand? If not go to a local hunt some weekend and draw out with three walker dogs or just spectate. I'll wager 90% of the trees will be slick. The strange thing is these walker casts always come in with plus points. LOL!!!

I have enjoyed every episode!!!! Even the ones with the holsteins.LOL Not much on red dogs but they sure looked and sounded good. Turned the volume way up. Drove my wife bonkers. I've watched every episode 3 or 4 times.

As for the comments...if you want to change the reputation of competition hunting....change the behavior of the participants. Just look back at some of questionable situations shared on this board.

And yeah I'm proud to chase rats in the day and bandits in the dark....and I ain't letting points, people, or cash ruin with I enjoy so very much.

sure wish you could get a different time slot. the early morning is no good...work. the other slots are in time frames of going hunting. yes, i guess i could use the dvr, if i could figure out how to work the thing. always seems to start recording something, and switch to something else before it finishes. maybe one day i'll be able to catch what others are talking about and watch it. i really do want to.

so you are saying that walker dogs are only 10 % coon dogs? Buddy, i beg to differ. there is a reason why they come back with plus points, they tree coons, and the cast members see them. yes i know, we all have our favorites, and i have never hunted in california, but you're invited to come cross country anytime you like, bring Dave and the camera, we'll have the wager of your choice, and hunt for 2 hours. may the best dog win. i seriously doubt that mine will get only 10 % of the points scored plus that night, but i do like your odds you giving. At a 9-1 wager, i may be able to afford to buy me a real coondog buy nights end....but then i just may have one leashed that night too. Who knows...guess we could see huh..lol

Now this is hilarous! Im not even going to waste the time replying to this. However i'm guessing you hunt blue dogs? Am I correct?

As far as the episode goes, lets face the facts there are so many dishonest coon hunters and if you disagree then you haven't been around enough.

Skip,

First off, we asked stud and kennel owners to "advertise" with us and they paid a fee to be on the show, and in turn they get to spotlight the dogs in their kennel.

If we went to a competition hunt, it was pretty much luck of the draw...the squirrel hunt, I guided the only cast of Champion dogs at that hunt.

Trust me when I say "NOBODY IS GETTING PAID" in this venture... Both Dave and I have a good sum of money out of our own pockets to make this possible.

As the editor of this show, I've let ya'll have your say about the opinion expressed by the hunter in that episode. He believes that coon hunters in competition are more competitive, and yes, Dave (who is an avid coonhound competition hunter) repeated what he had said.

Since I filmed the episode, and I was there, I truly believe that what he was saying was that in his OPINION, coon hunters are more competitive and therefore less likely to "help out" another competitor.

I'm not sure that I agree with him, but I've seen guys stand and kick the toe of their boot in the ground while someone shines a tree....I've seen guys find a coon and shut their light off...stand in the only spot you can see the coon....and I've seen em swear they could not see a coon in the wide open! Does that make all coon hunters evil, and all squirrel hunters saints? Heck no... But all you have to do is to read this message board on Saturday and Sunday mornings to find out who got "cheated" this weekend...

How about instead of jumping on the backs of the host, the producers, the editors of this show, you do your part to change the perception that coon hunters? Yes, we could have chosen to leave that on the cutting room floor, but the perception is real, even if the actions of coon hunters are not as crooked as the perception would lead you to beleive.

I've competition coon hunted and competition squirrel hunted. I have never seen a squirrel hunter stand back and not search the tree for the game. I've never seen a squirrel hunter want to stand and fight over the rules. I've never seen a squirrel hunter try and cheat to win, but I've seen all these things several times in coon hunts.
I'm not trying to start an arguement, just telling the facts!

if you saw all this, did you remind this hunter in question that we are all trying to enjoy the sport, and his actions are un-called for? the rules clearly allow for him to question mark any call, and formal complaint that if he isn't satisfied. also, the judge should have told all this, but any more hinderance, and he will be scratched from cast. usually, a clam talking to in the woods elminates in questions, or problems, but then there are those times when we must use the rules in place to protect the rest of the cast.
