After updating your system

If you have a map card from anyone other than Garmin (registered) it will not let your unit turn on (go past the Garmin screen) or at least that is what mine did. I removed my map card and bingo it worked. Put it in and the same problem, removed it and it worked fine.....hmmmmm

Mine got to where it would only pick them up 200yds. Updated mine and now it picks up like it did before (mile-2 miles).

I haven't checked into getting a new card but I will after christmas.

Here’s how I figured out what was going on with the map card.

My system would only pick up 200 yds at best. Garmin said to update it so I did. After I did that it wouldn’t turn on. Garmin told me to send it in and since it was out of warranty I needed to send $150.00 which included any repairs needed, software upgrades and return shipping (10-14days).

I bought another Gramin because I’m hunting 4-6 nights a week and I wasn’t about to turn loose my dogs without a system.

Anyway, Couple days later at work, the IT guys were talking about windows 7. They said, any programs that weren’t registered with Microsoft would lock up your computer or something along those lines.

So I put two & two together and bingo.

Now I have two systems…lol

garmin or microsoft???
when i reload a computer and do the windows updates ,it does a valadation before you can keep useing it,,,and the vista and win-7 are bigger memory hogs than xp ....good thing i still got a straight oem windows-me disk.plus.i still got a win-98 disk too if anyone still use's it and needs to reload their computer so they can still use their good older software...also got win-2000pro too..

I've updated mine a couple times with a bogus map card and it has ALWAYS worked fine. I believe I got my card from Valley Creek.

I'm just guessing. Not sure what's going on. Just posting my findings and thoughts (no facts).

Thanks,

.

With the new updates installed it takes 2 1/2 to 3 minutes for the garmin to turn on the first time after the update and map card installed. You do not get the bar at the bottom showing the progress of the card loading, all you get is a dark screen with Garmin on it. Most people think it is hung up but give it 3 minutes and it should be loaded.
