School Visit promotes Coonhunting/Hunting with Hounds

The NC Coonhunters Assn was approached a month ago about making a presentation to a middle school class that was reading the book "Where the Red Fern Grows" by Wilson Rawls. JJ Callahan, who resides near the school, volunteered to make the visit. Today I got very positive feedback from the teacher as well as some pics of the visit...

I'd like to thank JJ for taking the time and making the effort to visit this class with his hound Rambler!

Hope all this attention did not spoil Rambler...haha

Way to go! NCCA & JJ

This will go along way to making a positive impression on some young minds.

COOL!

That is SO awesome! I had fun bringing a Horse and greyhound to my son's Richard's school many moons ago. No one around here has a CLUE about coonhounds....
That is really a great thing you all did..and Yup... that hound looked like he LOVED all that attention and will be VERY willing to do it again!

Thanks for this awesome work! Heather

Great story guys, thanks for taking the time to represent us coonhound folks in a positive way.
Glad to see that book is still in the schools.

Thanks again,
Andy

that's awesome, more kids need to be educated about our sport and other methods of hunting as well. Wonder if any of those kids were begging to go hunting with rambler!

That is a great looking presentation....We need more of this in our schools. So many kids have no clue what life is past the video games and tv.

My nephew Cody(9) got his picture in the Bloodlines a few times over the summer with our Redbone Tracker...He could not wait to get back to school and show all of his friends his pictures, and tell them about what he did this summer and all the places that it took him. He was shocked that so many of the kids did not even know what a coondog was...

Good question Larry? Actually with JJ being a bluetick man I was surprised that the Bluetick was not at the top and twice as big as the other breeds...

Thanks JJ for taking some time out of your schedule to address coonhunting with the kids. We need more folks to step up and do things like this for the kids. They love it! Great job JJ!

this is so cool. what a way to get youth into our sport. a lot of kids have no tradtions like this (or any other for that matter) in the families this is great. Hunting has been in my family for generations. this is so awsome.
