sub division hounds

All right boys, i need some help here.

I live in a subdivision ( main problem ) and have three hounds.

I have a really nice yard and probably one of the nicest kennels money can build. But,i have a neighbor that is totally anal and if my dogs bark even one time they are calling the cops.

This neighbor has five dogs ( pitt bull , lab, shitzu, boxer and a rotewiller ) that bark all the frickin time

(but thats OK because they belong to him.)

Very rarely do mine bark because they have been shocked and switched repeatitly to prevent them from disturbing anyone.

But if a dog anywhere in the neighborhood barks after dark i get the blame.

The problem is out of the 3 hounds i have, one is 9 months old and one is 14 weeks old. ( my 4yr doesnt make a peep)

Is there anything i can put on the 9 month and 14 week old when im not home ? because they VERY rarely bark when i am home

I really dont want to put my tri-tronics collar on 14 week old and the sportdog bark collar i have doesnt seem to work right.

I have heard there is a collor that spays the dog in the face when they bark, has anyone used one of these ?

Sigh...

... stinks to have hounds in the burbs....
How about Crating the hounds inside when you're not home? Mine are housedawgs(and Just Pets)... My Bluedawg is called "the FogHorn" and our neighbors love him. We have a subdiv. in the making behind us... so he will be INDOORS more often now... he can be loose in the house...and is a superb watch dog too.... the other dog is not too good in the house so he is crated indoors and does really well. WHen we have fostered BnTs we've had some NOISY ones and simply crated them as needed to keep peace in the neighborhood.
Not everyone is set up to have room for a bunch of big crates but if you have a garage or room in the house that MAY be a solution? Crate trained dogs can be crated pretty long comfortably....
Funny how hounds get blamed for the noise... I find the other dogs around here... with the nasty chopchopchop barks are aLOT more offensive.....
Good luck, hope you find a good solution... or your neighbor moves....
Happyhunting Heather

Thanks for the the crate and house suggestion but my hounds get hunted 5 nights a week and they usaually have that sinky hound smell to them. So , keeping them in the house isnt an option for the two older dogs. I have crated the small pup and put her in the Mini barn when i go hunting because she has barked wanting to go. But, the crate and the barn just magnify her bawl mouth so i just let her run loose until i get back. i have thought about posting flyers arounfd the neighborhood explaining the measures i take to keep my dogs quiet and to inform people that my hounds generaly are not the ones doing the barking. maybe put some pictures of the kennel , dogs and tri-tronic collars on the flyer. But i really was wondering about the collar that sprays the dog when they bark.

Don't know about any collars, but I know they'll stop calling the law on you when you start on them. Sounds to me like they might have some vishous type dogs that could make it un easy for you to take walks in the neighborhood and such.

I don't live in town, just an old country boy, but sounds to me like there needs to be some sort of an understanding made with the neighbor.

I had a neighbor doing the same thing, until I got the humane society after her for keeping the bark collars on her dogs
24-7-365. Then I one night while hunting I found her pot patch growing behind her house, now I got leverage and she knows it. Dern city implants, move out here buy 1 acre and think they rule the world.

Another thing you can do is borrow someones minature donkey for a week or two they will be glad to hear them dogs again. LOL

Fight fire with fire

bad neighbors not barking dogs

I used to have that problem , I put up an 8 foot privacy fence . Bark collars help . I found out the most important thing to do with neighbors like that is to educate yourself . Go to your city hall and make them show you the laws on barking or nuisance dogs . Here a dog can bark all day long but at night if it barks non stop for 1 hour with a police officer listening it then is a nuisance . Also we have to license a dog and can only have 3 , play by the rules and then make your neighbor play by them also !!!

i agree with the post above too. call the law everytime his barks. see how he likes it.

theres also a new thing out it looks liek a birdhouse and u can hang it near ur dogs or ur neighbors dogs and when they bark it sends out a high pitched noise. i havent tried it but have been wanting to get one for our neighbors dog who barks ALLLL the time.
anyone ever use one of those? they r like $50.

Where on earth do you hunt in Plainfield? I grew up in Brownsburg and all the hound hunting has been gobbled up by houses. I guess you have to head west to hunt.
We kept bird dogs for years in Danville in a subdivision. I knew everyone and were friends with all of them. Getting to know your neighbors cant hurt. Good Luck

Bless your heart!

Try living in am apartment~we had to for a while.

The dogs were good until the kids next door to us knocked on the door just to make them bark.

COUNTRY come to town!
Both of my boys drove jacked up Toy trucks with loud tires and exhaust.
Needless to say, they were ALMOST as glad to see go as we were to get back to the country.

Good luck!

I have an A-hole neighbor who called the cops all the time. One time when he called the officer came over monday morning to talk to me saying that my dogs were barking all weekend. I said funny cuz the dogs were over by Algona Iowa and thats 2 1/2 hours away. Haven't had a complaint since. Make sure you get the times when your dogs were supposed to be barking. Use a camcorder to get audio and visual of when his are barking. Easy way is while his are barking record yours not barking while being able to hear his in the background. Police will put a stop to it as they dont like to waste their time.

TOTALLY understood and thought about alot here. OUr blue dawg is a retired coondawg. He has developed a nose for skunks here...and I KNOW he'd catch one if he had a chance. I often think of the disaster HE would be if we could hunt him.... Can't IMAGINE our bed without 2 big dumb hounds between us The dawgs I hunted as a teen lived on chains with houses. Well cared for and happy. I miss the days were MA had some COUNTRYSIDE. We live in a "desirable little country town"... Newbies move in to be in the country...then hate the noises and smells etc... DUH... Coonhounds are rare enough here most people(so far) are just fascinated...and some think the noise is DAYTIME yote howling...LOL...
One of my favorite things to hear is the blue dawg calling to the mule down the road and vice versa. Wonder what the new subdivision residents will think?

Seriously hope you find a Good solution. I've wondered about those spray collars. And Also about that
"Birdhouse thing" I saw it in a catalog...

I had a neighbor that complained that one of the hounds was annoying them ( granted they built the development around the farm). I told them when they figure out which one it was come over and mark the kennel. They asked why and I told them so I could rid them of the problem so that i could rid me of mine (the naighbor). They asked what i would do once they figure out which one it was. sooooooo I told them we would go for a walk. never heard from the neighnor again to the bottom (wink)
