Let people know it is your first hunt. Most people will be glad to help you learn. Try to read up on the rules and know them the best you can, but as you can read on this board, even the people who have been in it forever don't know all of the rules.
Go to have fun with no expectations of winning. Too many times we put too much pressure on ourselves and our dogs to win, that the fun of trialing isn't fun anymore.
a piece of advice that a good freind of mine gave me before my first hunt. If you leave the hunt with your dog in the back of your truck it was a good hunt. If you leave the hunt happy with how your dog performed (win or lose) it was a great hunt. If you leave with a trophy ---- You got lucky.
