sad to see

On the last few casts I have been in, with exception to the winners packs, I have seen the same practice over and over. It's sad.

A couple of casts ago a guy mentioned several times that we should "odd man" for a cast winner because nobody had positive points. The other cast participant thought it would be fine. The judge of that cast would have nothing to do with it. That judge is a fine man. If you read this, thanks for sticking to your guns.

In a recent cast that I judged, I was frowned upon several times because I minused points that WERE SUPPOSED TO BE MINUSED. A couple of the cast members wanted the "circles" and even suggested "plus" a couple of times because of seeing the rabbit, although the dogs never scored a line and a place of refuge wasn't obvious when the track ended. We saw two lines, but never scored one because the dogs blew up the tracks before they got there.

There were only a few casts and it was said a couple of times that "someone should go to the winners pack".

It's a shame. I don't want a dog in my kennel that didn't earn his title correctly and I'd be P.O.ed if I found out someone in a winners pack I was in got there by fudging the scorecard / scoring incorrectly.

I don't agree with all of the rules BUT they are the rules. When I hold the scorecard they will be followed. I may make mistakes and I may have to look at the back of the card to verify I'm doing something correct, that's why they are there, but I can guarantee you if I'm marking down the scores what I'm putting down what I think is correct according to the rules.

I have run into many VERY NICE HONEST men over the last few months since I have gotten back into the trialing scene (Rocky Allen and Jack Chapman are two that stand out in my mind). I have also run into many grown men that act like kids. As I said before, it's a shame.

No new news here, I know. Driving home yesterday I just got madder and madder about the way I was shunned for following the rules as they are supposed to be followed. It's depressing that the hobby I love to do so much is so full of cheaters and crooks.

Can't agree more

Steve Shipman and I were running together this morning talking about the same thing.

You have to be able to look yourself in the mirror. If you have judged everyone fair, but pisses some off. At lease you can sleep at night. I say judge them right and if they get mad, they can get mad.

It's called the "Honor system" for a reason. If I win... it will be by honorable means.

Yep

You will find it everywhere you go. Its a shame I have dealt with alot of fair honest judges and i have seen a few that were not very honest or fair. But i have seen more honest men trying to do the right thing than the other. We dont live in a perfect world and we all make mistakes, but deliberate ones are the bad ones. My father and i used to trial alot but sometimes it just dont seem worth it when the hounds arent even the center of the action. Its what handler or what judge are you getting. I love judging but really dont get the score card much.

if you see a rabbit the rules say that you plus the strike points even when they lose it. they would still get a 50 minus but have to score the strike points.

Outlaw, reread the rules

Outlaw, you should reread the rules. What you said is common for people to think, but it is not correct. If you read back on the last couple of months posts you will find a couple of different discussions about it.

If you don't score a line and the track is just lost (not holed / no place of refuge) the strike points are not plus.

We saw two rabbits, called lines on both of them. The dogs never made it to the lines. They blew the tracks up before getting to the line.

Those are not plus strike points on those rabbits. All dogs were in on both rabbits. Strike points scratched, all dogs -50 for loss of the track.

Outlaw, here is the rule for you

POINTS WILL BE PLUS

e. On Strike, when rabbit is jumped and seen by non-hunting Judge or
majority of cast if hunting Judge is used, but goes to a hole or place
of refuge before completion of circle (cast must make an attempt to
locate hole. Majority of cast decision in hunting Judge situation or
non-hunting Judges decision).
....................................................................................................................................................................................................
"BUT GOES TO A HOLE OR P.O.R. BEFORE COMPLETION OF CIRCLE"

Seeing the rabbit doesn't get you plus points unless the dogs have already scored a line AND any dogs that missed that line STILL don't get their strike points plus (unless the dogs that missed the line are successful in scoring a different line or the rabbit holes or finds a P.O.R.)

If the rabbit is LOST, any dog that has not scored a line does not get positive strike points. It doesn't matter if you saw the rabbit 1,000 times and were on a first name basis with it.
