How would you like this to greet you in the morning?

This is Duke, our neighbor's 140 lb. pitbull. This is his 3 rd time in a month of 'playing' with a pickly squirrel. He just hasn't learned to let them alone! This time, he has them from face to butt and everywhere in between. They guesstamated close to 1000.

Yes, they have barbs on the end and they don't work their way out, they work in. If you feel the end (black part) it feels like sand paper. Vet and this I quote said 'It will start at $800 and go up according to have much knock out drug they have to use on him' So far they have been using Ace horse tranquillizer on him, makes him lulu, but doesn't knock him out.

None of our local vets will take emergency cases anymore, they have you take them to the emergency clinics and they charge money out the whazoo. It is insane what these clinics charge. There is no country vet that will go in or get up in the middle of the night to care for a pet anymore, they just tell you 'Go to the emergency clinic in this place or that place' and hang up. Makes me so mad, it's all about money, not the care of the animals.

Yes, it's sad that they've became that way. People doctors used to come to the house when I was little(1960's), now you better get an appointment a month in advance and forget about calling their house.

By the 3rd time I would have had about enought of that. We wouldn't have to worry about pulling them out.

may i bet that hurts. however EB you have hit it on the head about most vets. I have an idea, lets let the gov't take over vet care and watch the bang up job they'll do!!!

reminder: congress will be voting on the so-called healthcare reform bill tomorrow (more about insurance than healthcare). contact your senator/rep NOW.

maybe he'll learn after the 4th time!!!!

So far then only thing they had to pay for was the traquillizer, plus they have a lot of hours invested in pulling, lol. The owner was going to go the bye bye route, but didn't have the heart to due it. Seen him today, he is sore, swollen and sleepy, but otherwise ok.

That poor baby!

Unfortunately, some dogs don't learn to leave them alone because they hurt... they learn to tear them up because they hurt them last time. LOL Our 14 yr old herding dog was like that.

I'd get him on antibiotics with that bad a hit. There's bound to be some that are embedded and don't come out til' later and that can wreak havoc on the poor guy. I'd go over him head to toes a couple times a day looking for any who may pop up later. Our english, Jack, had a doosey of a case when we got him. Took more than a week for them all to come out from hiding.

Such a good dog to just sit there nicely when he's in that much discomfort.

I'd like to see a pic of the bald porkie!

I have just had one get into a porky in my life. He wasn't that bad but I just pulled them out. Since then I learned if you cut them first before you pull them they get soft and pull out easy. I would just ace him, cut the things in half and pull them out. Ace is cheap. My vet will sell me enough to make my dog really sleepy for a little of nothing. I use to have to ace a cadaver dog I had if I hauled it a long ways. Did it all the time and didn't hurt it. You can't hardley over dose them on it. You can allso get the stuff they put on babies gums when they are teathing to help with the pain. The dentistest has better stuff if you have one for a friend. God it is good to have good friends that trust me. I think that every time I read about these huge vet bills.

I know for sure the dog DOES weigh that much, because the first time he got into them, we had to weigh him to know how much Ace to give him. I saw the scales and I know how much the guy weighed before he picked Duke up. So I know for sure that is what he weighes. He was sold as a red nosed pitbull, that is all I can tell you, except his head is at my waist (if I had one) and I'm 5' 7" tall. My inseam on my pants are 32", if that gives you any idea.
