Can someone please fill me in

i have hunted in competition coon hunts for over ten years now and i love it. i recently read the play by play for the world for the beagles and it was like in a different language to me, can someone please fill me in on how a hunt format is placed and what the hound must do to award points , any information will be greatly appreciated

Welcome,
I used to coonhunt also and felt the same as you my first rabbit hunt, It sounded like a foreign language to me too. But here goes
First dogs are cut loose and strike, just like coonhounds, then once the rabbit is circled and someone see's it, a "LINE" is called, the dogs score as they trail through that line, 1st 100+, 2nd 85+, 3rd 70+, & 4th 55+ ...........kinda like tree points. Some may score and others might miss the line thats what makes it exciting, also if the dogs loose the track and are silent for 1 minute they go into a "check".......... all dogs get - 20, whichever dog picks the track back up gets a recovery +20.
There are numerous other rules but this should give you a general idea of whats going on.
PS Getcha a beagle and give it a try..........It's WAY more fun than stumbling around in the DARK LOL!!!!!

There are a lot of good clubs in Indiana. There are UKC, AKC and ARHA. It really depends on what you might prefer to run or what style of dog, that fits what format. Best of luck, in whatever you do. Have a good time.
