hunt rules

if three dogs are treed and one is on trail, and tree has been scored dogs are leashed up when can i cut my dog again.i have been cought on the lead twice when the last dog was called treed.my dog understands when we put the lead on her it is over and she will go on hunting even if we are still close to the tree just scored sofar. both times handlers said they needed to get away from the tree and as soon as they said this is far enough to let their dog go the forth dog was stuck and we were cought on the lead.is it up to the judge our can you cut right away

All handlers have to be comfortable that their dogs will not go back. Now the judge has to take in to consideration the distance that a handler wants to go. I'd say 50 or 60 yards tops.

I know in PKC you walk 1 minute in any direction and cut them.

No this is wrong!!

After scoring a tree with other dog(s) out on trail the judge must put the 8 minutes on the trailing dog(s) and they must bark at least once and then you can cut youre dog. You cannot cut yours loose until the 8 is broke.

Yes and the judge should be guiding the cast through ail of this, telling them when to turn into the other dog or dogs.

so the eight is put on the forth dog, as soon as it is broke by that dog the leashed dogs can be cut.is there anywhere in the rule book this can be found.if my dog was treed by herself and tree was scored, i could cut her right away as long as dogs were on trail.

Yes correct. You can cut her loose as soon as you score her tree as long as there were trailing dogs.

Now say there was a declared treed dog after scoring youre tree and 1 dog still on trail you have the option to keep her on the leash or cut her loose to the treed dog.

When the other dog opens, cut loose. Thats the advantage of training your dog to not go back to the same tree.

I got taken to school on this by an old hand that pointed out dogs must be cast to dog(s) that are opening on trail. The rules doesn't say the judge can walk you around all over the woods first.

Judge should be calling the shots here, you can't cut loose whenever you want. Sure you can question the judge.
who said judge could walk you around woods? that brings up something else you don't have to turn loose if you don't want to.

dogs kept on leash till tree is scored. Then must be turned loose with other dog trailing. Receives next position. Rule 11 and doesn't say anything bout 8 minutes.

Your right Okie, but if dogs are not opening then the eight is applied here.

when one said a trailing dog, it was assumed in my answer that you could hear it.
