Changes to Garmin

If you could change anything about your garmin what would it be?
Mine would take some of the bells and whistles off and just make it as simple as posible to find and operate what I use of it.
I see a lot of people on here love them and some don't. I was just wondering the likes and dislikes. For instance I don't need to save tracks to my computer. So that is a function I could drop. I know it won't be becouse the search and rescue people need it. It was just an example.

I like mine and don't mess with anything other than the map and dog buttons. If that's all mine had I would be ok.

How about a sleep mode were it would only send out a signel ever few minutes like 5 or 10 minutes. It would have to make the battery last a long time.
I seen a thread were a few was not happy with the battery life.

That is not a bad idea. One that you could slide in and out to charge and cary extras wouldn't be bad either.

changes

would like to see them use the Rhino antenna system so you can not break the antenna connection. Also put a connect in the back where you could hook up the externnal antenna. The antenna could also tellescope out like the telephone.

Change the battery type to the kind you are using and it should last you several hunts before you need to change them. If it is set wrong it will go thru them pretty quick. For the charging port put a tight fitting inner tube that is cut to fit the length of the transmitter body and you will stop having to clean it. I have had one on mine for over a year and haven't had to clean it yet.

MORE DISTANCE OR RANGE

I only get 3/4 to 1 1/2 mile depending on where I am at.I use the dog track, the mapping system and the measuring device to measure distances, and also will mark truck and honey holes. But my old tracker would get twice the distance.

What number do you have your collar set on? Do you clear your info out of your collar? Have you updated your collar? If not I would do all of them. If you have your collar set on a high number I would set it to a low one.

Yep, I would like to see that myself. I worry about breaking the antena off and I only use the rubber one that came on it. I too wish they would ad a port to hook up while in the truck and have a longer antena wire so you could run it threw the back of the cap and up to the dash in a club cab. That or sell an extention.

I couldnt tell you what number they are on, I have two collars, I called garmin and they walked me thru some things and updated and reset and it helped a little, but I got three times the range in the same areas with my old tracker. Not sure what you are referring to when you say do you clear info on collar

You can clear the tracks on the collars just like you do on the 220. You can allso set your collar on lower or higher numbers. You won't ever get the same range as you did with you tracker becouse of the antena differance. For that you wold have to go to the truck antena.

OK

How do I clear tracks on the collars ? And how often should this be done. I clear the reciever everytime I relocate. Also what is the range on the number setting or what is the highest I want to run ? Also how much difference will the truck antenna make?

That will depend on how much you hunt. You will have to figure out that once you know how to delete them.
To delete them go to compass(push dog button) select the dog you want to delete the tracks from. Then push enter, Then menu, then scroll down to delete dog unit tracks. Be sure the 220 has picked up the collar, then just press enter and it will delete them out of the collar.

And how often should this be done. I clear the reciever everytime I relocate. Also what is the range on the number setting or what is the highest I want to run ?

It ranges 1-49 I have 2 collars and set one on 5 and the other on 10. If you push the dog button, select the dog you want to do, then press menu., then (change comm. settings) you can set it up the way you want it. It will also ask you what you want to set the update rate to. I keep mine on 5 seconds.

Also how much difference will the truck antenna make?

The truck antena will make several miles differance.

What would you think about the lights being bright enough we wouldn't have to run tracker lights any more?

I don't see how they could do that without it hurting the battery life or the price. Most people don't run the tracker lights anyway so they wouldn't want to have to pay for the extra price or lose the battery life.

You might be right. I was just thinking the LED lights don't take hardly any battery and there are more and more useing the lights so there dog doesn't get hit by a car or attacked by yotes. If they fixed it so you could set the for dem or bright the battery thing wouldn't be an issue. As far as the price it shouldn't cost much more if any. LED's are pretty cheap.
The search and rescue people I know would like it becouse they all run flashing lights on there dogs.

That would be nice but not possible. The satelite is what determines the collars position. I would like to have google earth so I can see the timber layout.
