How many world hunts are hunted this way !

I'm new to the sport ,for the last 6 years I've been working with young dogs & only gone to a few pkc hunts

In talking to some people in the sport I found out the it not uncommon to have a hunt (pkc or ukc ) and even the world hunts on grounds that coon are baited with feeder buckets

My question :

How can we really say that the dog is a winner when it is an artificial environment

I guess it is the same as dogs winning with circle points

has this sport that started with the first person who learned that a wolf could be man's best freind headed in this direction !

You should be concerned about the Qaulity of hounds in the World Hunts because, who ever wins it will promote there hounds as great breeding stock, and hence this will Effect us all some where down the line, weather we like it or Not!
Not to say that the hounds that won arent all they are promoted to be, still this is where most of your foundation breeding comes from.

If you needed feeder buckets in Michigan then you might want to buy a better dog. But I am sure somebody up here supports them. I think most of us hunters are a little happy to see the dogs go 10 or 15 minutes without striking. Let me tell you its rare to have that happen. You really have to hunt the heck out of an area to push the coon out. Last few nights we haven't even had 2 or 3 minute race to the tree. Gets a little boring treeing so quick.

I am also in an area where no feeder buckets are needed. I do believe there are plenty of "feeder bucket" Champions out there and most likely, there will be several in any "All Grand" pedigree.

I don't reckon there is any way UKC can police the owners of the dogs that win the hunts but I don't believe anyone who has a criminal backround should be set up as an example for our youth. Just my opinion.

If the only thing you have to complain about in a comp hunt is wether it's ok to hunt off of feeder buckets or not, then your barking up the wrong tree.

In a couple of more weeks all the easy coons will be thinned out of state land areas. Then you can get your races you are looking for.

Todd, Larry and the rest of the Michigan coon hunters, I have a total of 4 feeder buckets out and you are still lucky to find a coon in a quick fashion..I hunt a veteran cooner that hunts hard and sometimes its takes up one hour to get a strike..I guess I live in the wrong area , you guys are very lucky...
