Several years back I had broke my dog off possums and he had not tree one in almost 2 years. I walk in to a tree one night, looked up and there sat a grinner. I stomped that dog as bad as I ever have, leashed him and started to walk off, then i looked a little higher than the possum and there sat the coon. I felt about as low as dirt. This was one of those times i'm glad my dog could'nt talk.lol He's is almost 8 and has'nt treed a possum since he was 2 1/2 years old and has yet to tree another coon with a possum in the tree.lol

If a coon is seen in the tree it's always PLUS points. It doesn't matter if there is a litter of possums 1, 5, or 25, if there is one little coon in that tree it's plussed.

Can't say the same thing for a den though. Off game seen without seeing a coon, regardless of the reason (thick tree, den, whatever) it's minused for registered, scratched for NtCh.

I've got a good one. Hunting by myself one night my dog got deep and struck a good track and locked it up in about 3 minutes. He was treeing hard and the tree was a big oak. As I began walking around the tree shining i looked down as I almost stepped on a oppossum playing dead not 15 feet from my dog. I was thinking you son of a..... I figured he had killed the oppossum and knew the consequences so he picked a tree close by hoping i wouldn't see it. I went ahead and gave him the benefit of the doubt and started looking, and sure enough he had a coon. I would have really felt bad if i would have beat him for that one. The oppossum was probably sitting close by eatin the same thing the coon was and freaked out by my dog's ungodly locate so he didn't know what to do except play dead
