Northern Dogs @ Southern World Hunts

Once again another Northern dog has won a World Hunt held in the South. Several years ago it was Quick in Tenn, several years before that is was the Chuck dog from Ohio that won in North Carolina. Not trying to stir the pot, there is always a lot of cyber gum bumping about those Southern dogs & the ability required by them to tree coons in the South & how those Northern Woodlot dogs will struggle to get it done in the South. I think history is telling us..............it doesn't matter where your hunting at, if you've got the right kind of hound on the end of your lead strap, winning can be done anywhere. Congratulations to all the Southern, Northern, Western, & Eastern dogs that made the finals! You all made it a heck of a lot farther than a whole lot of other people.........including myself! LOL

I get your point but I beleive Big D was raised and trained in the south, then moved north.

Regardless, congratulations to all of the finalist.

A coondog is a coondog no matter where they are from... Big D proved that tonight... but the fact is that southern dogs as a whole have to be get deep quick type dogs that can work a bad track in some bad terrain. I know, I know.. everyone region has bad terrain, but adding that to a thin coon population makes it a little tougher. Night after night with these conditions can give a southern dog a little advantage at times. But a coondog is a coondog. Congrats to Big D.

I really don't understand what fun it would be to hunt down there in GA where you live bc it seems like coon are so few and far between that you tree 1 a week over a 100 mile stretch!

Holy smokes! If it's like you make it seem... Hunt the edges of towns, there's garbage eating coon in EVERY town!

I didnt say why it would be hard for one to tree a coon here did I? Its not fun anymore..Our stinking coons have died of something..I dont even want to go much anymore....I'm hoping that when the season opens..Some of the coons on some state land will still be there..I was however not kidding about the south ga part or the feeders part!!

North - South is relative to where you live . Thick coon - thin coon , drive desire and an uncanny ability to know where to look for a coon takes care of that problem . Track style is a matter of preference as long as they get the track to the tree . Having the meat , thats locating ability ,if they dont have that , you will see lots of slick trees . Treeing style is also a matter of preference , but what it comes down to is treeing hard enough and long enough for the hunter to get there . End of story !

NORTH OR SOUTH DON'T MATTER FELLAS IT'S ALL ABOUT THE GREEN BACKS THAT'S PUSHIN THE HOUNDS! IT IS A SHAME THAT THE HARDWORKIN MAN THAT HUNTS HARD CAN'T GET THE FAIR SHAKE WHEN IT COUNTS THE MOST!

I've coonhunted in the swamps in Southern Georgia (took me about 16 hours to drive down there). I've looked for moose in the swamps of Maine (took about 20 hours to drive up there). You can't go any farther north in the U.S. --- except Alaska. THE TERRAIN WAS REMARKABLY SIMILAR!!! Difference? Gators and cottonmouths down there, moose and bear (no snakes---too cold) up there. NO ROADS (except timber company roads). I like it better in the middle. I'd rather walk up and down the hills than walk through water.
