Re: Losing the sport.

I can remember being really, really little and wanting to just be around my dad. So when i was old enough he'd carry me to the woods with him to coon hunt. Over time i began to love the sport. Not only the companionship with my father but the peacefulness of the woods and the sound of the dogs. In my family it kinda became a family thing. The coon club would have Christmas dinners and get togethers. The club house was once a family place and a family in their own minds. I loved it so much that my first date with a girl was coon hunting lol. It was what i loved. I wasnt out partying and getting into trouble i was chasing dogs through the woods at all hours of the night. My parents would ground me from hunting only to come into my room in the middle of the night to an empty bed. Id sneak out the window just for the excitement of running my dogs. I then joined the marine corps and had to give up coonhunting cause i moved to California. I did my time there and 4 deployments. I decided to get out of the marine and go home. I started right back to the one thing i loved. It was refreshing and very much something that i felt brought me back to life. it was that something id been missing. After being home for about 9 months i went back to iraq as a civilian for a yr. only to come home and rejoin the marines. I knew this was my calling. only this time i choose to come to north carolina. As soon as i got here i started looking around for clubs and people to hunt with. Finding that not as many people hunted like there were in the past. Not knowing then 6 months later id find out why. I hunted here and there with this dog and that and decided to buy a dog. Well needless to say the dog and the person wasnt what i was expecting and it got me thinkin. What has went wrong with the sport i once loved so dearly. After a few arguments and losing 2500 i found my answer. The sportsmanship of the sport has long been forgotten . The companionship has been replaced by greed and ones self improvement. What happened to the days when a mans word meant something. When it wasnt about making a buck over helping someone or just plain doing the right thing. Not only in this sport but society has forgotten how to care about one another. We hunt for the pleasure of someones company, whether it be mans best friend or someone. But we forget that through ur improvement someone was there to help you along the way. So when u get to the top and have all the things u want u dont forget where u came from and crap on the little guys just trying to get by. You should be honest like someone once was with you. It really makes me sick when i think about it. So after all of this i have chosen to leave the sport that i once loved not just for the dogs but the companionship of new people and of my father. A time once loved and shared between a father and son, now stepped on for the sake of someones greed. I know what most of u would say. Why let someone take something u care about so much. I say this to you, Because it's not what i love, i dont love the greed and everything the sport has become. It's easy for someone to sit at the top and say ok well bounce back, but when ur at the bottom and u save for 2 yrs to buy a good dog only to have it not be nothing close to what it was suppose to be. Its demoralizing. If i could id go get another one but us on the bottom dont have the luxury of doing that. so i live with the decision i made and choose to leave a once know brother hood, now known for nothing. Good hunting, god bless to all, and one day ill be back i promise.
i hate to hear you want to give up something you luv so much over a few stupid people, keep your head up and hope you stay with it
