Question For All You Blue Dog Men

It seems to me that UKC is very heavy with Bluetick people, sorta of impressed reading how many hunt blueticks and how good they are. I understand and correct me if I am wrong but there has never been a bluetick to win the UKC world hunt, is that correct? Another thought that I have is there are very few blueticks in the PKC state and national race, can anyone explain that? And my third question is what makes Bluetick fans so partial to the blue dogs over the other dogs when Walkers are in the winners circle all the time, especially in PKC?? Now I have been coon hunting for 30 years and the best dog I have ever been in the woods with was ALL-NITE UNDERTAKER of Jerry Spurocks. The dog was incredible, he would get off on his own and tree and there would be a coon there, but this is the only bluetick that I claimed was a walker in bluetick cloths, even Jerry himself said that he has seen very few good blueticks that Taker was an exception. What are your thoughts on my thoughts, this is a serious inquiry for I am gettin a Bluetick at Autumn Oaks!!

You blue guys kill me. One thing is for certain youre consistent!!!! Ive hunted in hundreds of hunts and pleasure hunted with hundreds of bluetics and i my-self have seen 2 that i would own. Their style is so much different ( trailing abilities, treeing abilities, and their lack of independence ) Im sure their are some decent ones out there but i hear the same thing over and over. I got a good one ! I got a good one ! I got a good one ! You could start a thread about redbones stating NEVER SEEN A GOOD REDBONE! And i promise you as sure as youre sitting there you would have tons of replies i got a rilly good one ! i GOT A GOOD ONE ! The fact is people are stuborn.. Most people judge a good dog by the best dog theyve ever owned and i can tell you several people around here that coon hunt but have terrible dogs and when they get one that will occasionally tree a coon WOW they have a world beater!!! And no a blue dog has never won the UKC world hunt and i dont think one ever will. Anyone from Ohio that wants to show me a good blue dog come out to the Johnstown Ohio Coonhunters Club this friday (mini slam) and saturday night. There will be about ten bluetics there but very rarely does one win their cast. If a coondog doesnt have independance then it will not win very often. Call it however you want to and its obvious what breed has the most independence and what breed wins the most. Let me share a statment with you that ive found to be very true. "If you hunt blues you loose"

No bud ive heard of the dog but ive never hunted with it. There are exceptions to a weak breed once in a great while just very rarely.

Opinion

I think most Blue and Walker men are hard headed, A Blue man will hunt a English, and a Walker will hunt an English. A Blue won't hunt a Walker and vice versa." most of the time" Everyone has things they like to see in a dog " mouth, tree style , track style, etc, etc " Thats why they hunt the coler they do. Theirs probably ten walkers to every other breed. They have to win more the numbers don't lie. But I don't think the others can't win or won't. I've beat several good walkers , and been beat ! Thats why its called compitition. I may not have one, but I can asure you their is a Blue that can and will win the World, But I do think that Blue men fight to much among ourselves, insted of bettering the breed. Just My Opinion

I am hunting a bluetick now but im not color blind and iv had guys tell me she hunts walker style. I never know if its a complement or not.LOL. I comp. hunt for fun and to see how she stacks up. Around here if a hunt draws 30 dogs there might be one or two blueticks, And probably 90% walkers. My impression has been that the walkers seem to in general terms be better suited to the comp. format. Quick to open and quick to get treed is the name of the game if you want to win. But i will say that i have yet to see one that i would want to swap leads with because the vast majority of my hunting is alone and i like to look up trees and see a coon. Regardless of what some of these guys will tell ya there is a big difference between a good comp. dog and a real coondog.

I started out with blueticks and was adament that I wouldn't get into walkers. There is just something about the breed that I've always liked, and I'll continue to work on having decent blue dogs. Out of my two blueticks, only one will hunt. She's nowhere near finished, and we have both learned a lot of things about coon hunting together. I have no doubt that when she gets some training from someone more experienced than me she'll be able to hold her own at least in the local hunts, because she's relatively hot nosed and moves a track extremely fast. What I like the most about her though, is that even as a dog that isn't finished she won't back others on a slick tree. I saw her several times refuse to tree with a broke Walker I owned, and sure enough the trees ended up being slick. She may never be perfect, and she may never make it as a competition dog but I like hunting with her nonetheless.

I have to admit that I've added several Walkers to my kennel since I started, but just like blueticks there are pro's and con's to them as well. I hunt what suits me. I'd love to have another really nice blue dog that hunts, but if I can't find one and there is a Walker I like better then that's what I'll get. No need to bash one breed or the other. Everyone has their own preferences, and not everyone is a competition hunter.

Joey, this statment is a fraud!!! A fake!!! I have owned 3 good and i mean good walker dogs and if i walked to 20 trees i better see 19 coon. There is NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GOOD COMP DOG AND A PLEASURE DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A dog should tree a coon the exact same way!!! I dont know how many hunts you have been to BUT i can tell you that leaves or no leaves walkers blow every other breed out of the water !!!!!! Keep using the same excuses people have been using for years theres way to many of them !!! were all out numbered 10 to 1 !!! There all slick treeing idiots !!! Want a pillow to cry on for every time a walker beats you???? why are there so many of them????? people want what WINS !!!!!!!!! and win they do!!!!!!!!!! Man you bluetic guys are unbelievable!!! We can show you stat after stat and you still refuse to agree!!!!!!!! "YOU HUNT BLUES YOU LOOSE!!!!!!!" Ive never in my life seen a bluedog win consistently!!!!!! NEVER

Wayne is your "wintertime coondog" treeing dens or coons? there is a difference in being a coondog and treeing on the first smelly den they come across. Ole boohoo blue can trail around and tree as many dens as he wants while my walker is through the country under a RICKY and I walk in the club house with the CW!!!!!!!!!!!

You my friend are simply ignorant. You can't stand the blue guys but look who has the most and most obnoxcious posts on this thread. I wouldn't doubt if you were 16 years old and your daddy has a decent walker that does ok in hunts sometimes. You sure don't know much if you think a good comp. dog is always a good coondog.

Like i said you can show statistic after statistic and you guys still refuse to believe it!!!! am i 16? No sir im not even close to 16. Ive seen several guys around hear switch to walkers and when i ask them why? they simply reply couldnt find a good 1. Chew on that for a while my friends. Actually know what i love seeing you guys at a hunt i wish every hunt i went to was a cast with 3 bluedogs in it. Keep them coming guys and keep going home disappointed

This post was not to lead the way it is leading. I am a die hard walker man have been all my life and would not change if the walkers had them big blue mouths!! Boys I love this game to much to give it up even though I cannot effectively handle dogs in the hunts with my hearing loss. I figured if I can get a dog that has the mouth that I can call and hear I can still have fun even though I may get beat. They are good dogs in all breeds, but the walkers are very dominant coon hound breeds, you are in denial if you say otherwise. As far as consistant theres not alot of walker dogs that are consistant but the ones that are are always in the winners circle. I talked to Jerry Spurlock last night and I asked him what am I getting into with getting a bluetick. He said that the funnest part of having All-Nite Undertaker was when he consistantly beat the walkers it was alot of fun, because walker men cannot stand to get beat by the blueticks. On the other hand he said they was alot of ganging up on him and his bluedogs when he drawed all walker casts, can you all relate to this??

Hemi

Never hunted with her but Hemi seems to be a consistant cast winning bluetick. Anybody ever hunted with her?

Thanks for having some class about the subject Mr. Hall. I hope you'll find a bluetick to suit you...I've found that another thing I really like about the breed is that most have neat personalities as well. Most of my friends that hunt, and a couple that have helped me get into the sport have Walkers. They kid with me about Ann, but they respect my decision to hunt a blue dog. However, I HAVE had some nasty comments made to me about her by others that neither knew me well nor had hunted with my dog and I. I do know that if cast members act like some of the people that have responded to this post when I start putting her in the hunts, it will be hard for me to enjoy it. Like yourself it's something I'd like to try for fun, but I refuse to be insulted while I do it. Kidding around is one thing...being outright rude is entirely another.
