God is Great , Beer is Good , People are Crazy

I'm not a huge country music fan , but this silly song has been rattling around in my head all week long. I'm sure most of you have heard it since they play it about every 10 minutes.

When I first heared it , I thought it was maybe a bit sac-religous , but after listening more , I've decided there is alot of truth in it. Lets take a closer look at the title of the song and chorus and find some truth...

1.... God is Great..... This is a no brainer. Of course God is great , no only great but the greatest ever. Anybody that can save my worthless soul from hell fire is great. That in itself is a miracle. Not to mention all that God has created in this world and the beauty of it all. The truth is ,,, GOD IS GREAT!!

2.... Beer is Good...... I'll have to admit that I can't stand to be around drunk people or alcoholism. Booze has ruined alot of peoples lives , no doubt about it... BUT , beer is still pretty darn good. In that I mean , nothing is as satisfying as a good cold one after a hard day. It just taste good sometimes.... Yeah , some folks abuse it , but some folks also abuse guns too and use guns for the wrong reasons. You can over-use or miss-use about anything. The song doesn't say beer is ''great'' ,, it says beer is good ,, and I'll have to admit that the truth is ,, BEER IS GOOD...

3.... People are crazy...... This one is a no brainer also. In fact , its almost as true and number 1 above.... In this world of weirdo's , politics , and the Horse's Azz's that I have to put up with at work , I'm really sure its true. Lets face it , people are crazy. I see it everywhere I go and I'm sure most of you do too. The truth is ,,, PEOPLE ARE CRAZY....

Maybe this is an unrelated coonhound post and a silly song , but as I said , its bounced around my head all week long . Maybe I've become a bit cynical and pesimistic in my old age ,, but the truth is , God is Great , Beer is Good , and People are Crazy...

Yeah, I think there are a few christians in the history of the church that enjoyed a beer now and then. C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, C.H.Spurgeon and I am sure I could name more. And none of these godly men were drunks either because they knew that God was so much more than any beverage or other pleasure. To many folks end up with drink or other enjoyments turning into their personal gods. They won't admit usually but look at how an addicted person lives and what they can't live without. Unless they trust God to be set free by faith in Jesus.

yes it is a good song, and has a feeling of truth in it.

"I dont believe God intends to save a few of his children"

Yet, I believe everyday we all have choices to make and we are not alone when we make them.(Somebody should tell politicians that)

BEER YUCK!

Hate the stuff but Bob loves the flavor.. especially "weird" beers... YucK again... that said I am sipping very slowly on an Amaretto on the rocks... I would love it more if they made it without alcohol... but they dont. I get very sleepy from the alcohol and my meds(which is good since I sleep BADLY)... but if they made the stuff with NO alcohol I'd gladly get FAT for the flavor! I don't get drunk... I barf WAY before I get drunk! Made me VERY safe as a "kid"... I really don't like barfing so I was not a drinking risk.
People are crazy... all I have to say here is DUH! I know Bob and I are odd as can be...which works well for US. My family actually has alot of mental illness as well so I know all sorts of crazy... and worked with some "interesting" people as a therapeutic riding instructor too... scary people, wonderful people, sad people..... CRAZY makes humans interesting.
God IS GREAT! another no brainer... no matter how awful I may feel one day... or how Wonderful I may feel another... I KNOW that God is the reason for all of my days and each and every one of them I am SO GRATEFUL.... I've been given second chances a couple times... I like to pray to that Great God that others can as well....
God, Beer, Crazy...LOL... HappyHunting to ALL!
Heather
PS... MJFlores...LOL.. Gotta be sure you and Bob have a weird beer together next time we make it up for a hunt! After we're done that is...LOL... You crack me up....

I'm not advocating a bunch of beer drink'in really , I just thought the song pretty much summed up life in general...

A couple of people pm'ed me and said they never heard of the song and thats hard to believe since I've heard it about 10 times a day around here.

Anyway , I found the lyrics to it , but if you ain't heard the song before , it wont make much sense to ya.
Here's the lyrics;

This old man and me
Were at the bar and we
Were havin’ us some beers and
Swappin’ I don’t cares
Talkin’ politics
Blonde and redhead chicks
Old dogs and new tricks and
Habits we ain’t kicked

We talked about Gods grace
And all the hell we raised
Then I heard the old man say,
“God is great, beer is good and People Are Crazy”

He said "I fought two wars,
Been married and divorced"
What brings you to Ohio?
He said "**** if I know"
We talked an hour or two
About every girl we knew
What all we put ‘em through
Like two old boys will do

We pondered life and death
He light a cigarette
He said "These **** things will kill me yet,
But God is great, beer is good and people are crazy"

Last call its 2:00am
I said goodbye to him
I never talked to him again

Then one sunny day
I saw the old man’s face
Front page Obituary
He was a millionaire he
He left his fortune to
Some guy he barely knew
His kids were mad as hell
Huh but me, I’m doing well
And I drop by today
To just say thanks and pray
And I left a six-pack right there on his grave
And I said God is great, beer is good and people are crazy

God is great, beer is good and people are crazy
God is great, beer is good and people are crazy

The title and the song are both catchy.

IMHO God is Great
Beer is OK
and people are sure crazy as HE!!

BUT I like the ending where he gets all the old mans money, "his kids were mad as Hell" Guess they should have sat and talked with Ole' Pops. Good lesson to learn.

It kinda reminds me of a song back a long time ago that went something like this;

''Ain't but three things in this world thats worth a solitary dime;

'' And thats old dogs and children , and watermelon wine''.....

But I'm sure nobody here is old enough to remember Tom T. Hall. lol

Another Tom T fave:

400 hogs they're just, standin out there
My wife won't feed em, and my neighbor don't care
They can't get out and roam around like my old huntin dogs
Here I lay in this darn bed and who's gonna feed them hogs

Tom T. Hall sang the best stories I ever heard. Sure do miss hearing them on the radio. Classic country stations will drop one in now and then.
