Would you rather? I need input!!!

Just wanting to see the responses I get on this. Would you rather a coondog have his nose on the ground or up in the air when hunting? My buddy says on the ground I say up in the air. What do you think? All input appreciated!!!

ground or air

If i'm hunting an acre sweetcorn patch a dog can circle it in one minute with it's nose in the air. If I'm hunting on a moonlight night in February, a dog with it's head in the air better be lookin up to spot one in the moonlight. To make a long story a little shorter, I aint got no patience for a dog that's got more running gear under him than nose in front of him. And vice versa. We used to call that a "balanced hound" back in the day. If they can work a track up to hot then there's no use to keep their nose on the ground. A good dog knows that. A good way to tell a good dog with inate ability is to turn out with a swamp, marsh, beaverpond, creek to the left and a Pee pore piney sandhill on the right and see which way he chooses to go hunting.

On the ground but with enough sense to pick it up when the coon needs to be pushed to go up a tree.

I like a dogs head up if its hot enough, and if the dogs good enough to know how to use the nose when it is in the air... Most dogs I'v seen with with a nose up dont check to see if they are right... That I dont like.... Now if you got one good enough he dont need to check. But on these long cold tennessee nights at the end of season coon are in a running mood and a dog with his head up aint going to do a thing in this mountian country but run in circles... These cliffs, rocks and bluffs will make a dogs head point down wheather he wants it to or not, if for no other reason than hes wore out.. LOL...

I have to say though my buddys blue dog may make a heads up beleiver out of me yet...He's 17 months old and is the fastest stike and tree dog Ive seen in a long time, maybe I can talk him in to letting me competition hunt him some...

Generally I don't watch them in the dark. As long as they get treed quick with a coon I could give a crap where there nose is.
