They are minused their strike now, and if it gets to 400 then they are scratched.

I think they used to be scratched after the second offense many years ago, but not now. Now they have to build up 400 minus points.

Many of these babbling idiots seem to never get bit the 8 can never catch them and if you do have honest mouth dogs in the cast they always see to get in on what ever there doing to stay in the game.

This is a very true statement. I knew a guy once once that had a babbler and he would say she was "scaring the coons up"! This guy is even a MOH!
One night she was dumped with a small, fast dog and the babbler babbled all the way in there several hundred yards behing the fast dog and babbled all the way back out in the road where the fast dog came out after never opening. The faster dog was loaded and when the babbler fell out in the road at the same place the fast dog came out, the guy finally had to come to terms with what his dog was doing and gave her a good whipping!
I thought it was funny to finally see this so called MOH admit he had been wrong about what she was doing all along!
I think what makes babblers alot of times is hunting them with faster, more experienced dogs too much and they can't keep up.

what i dont understand about what people call babbling dogs is if they are hunted off feeders and open first and tree first . some people call them babblers. i have been on hunts when coon were struck and treed in 30 secons and seen and they said babbling. but if you dumped in a place no feeders than could be 10 min with out a dog opening. some dogs have a better nose than others and can smell better. im tired of others always saying babbling. i have hunted with bablers and know the difference but sometimes when you get first strike and first tree in less that a min. it is not babbling, it is just no one wants to admit that you have a first strike dog. if you got a dog that opens and it takes 8 min to open again i would call it a babbler.

Yes some dogs do have colder noses then others and yes there are some that strike as soon as they smell coon. But then you get the ones that are open from the time you drop them to the time you pick them up thats the ones i was referring to in my first post. Yes to i have seen dogs open and tree in bout the same breath and like you I don't think they are babbling. Its just the ones like I have already talked bout that don't shut up the whole time your hunting and yes some of them guys really do think there dog is doing something but in reality there chasing shawdows and like to here them selfs bark.

I had an old english dog years ago that was an open mouth dog until he was 5 years old, after that he would open as soon as he smelled coon and you might not hear him again for as much as 10 mins. and then usually what you heard next was his nice long locate and he sure wasnt a babbler just a smart old coondog. Point is just because they dont keep runnin their mouth doesnt mean that strike was a babble.

i understand what you are saying. i have seen some dogs open off the lead and never shut up but again some people just dont know enough about hunting to say you got a babbler if he gets most first strikes. but again there are a lot of them that bark for no reason except they are running the other dogs

No track

Must be a track evident. I believe babbling is defined when a dog is cut loose off the lead. Where there is no track, maybe dog running to catch up with pack. if more thatn one dog strikes then i would be pretty confident that there is a track there. Its for sure is a judgement call. You also would want to see what happens on the next drop or two.

come on now ...where no track is evident....what r we doing now...crawling around on the ground looking for tracks....if thats the case we can look to see what they are runnin...ie: possum,porky.....1 dog ok but 2 dogs don't think so....discretion is the key word here

LOL well thats what i was trying to say. Lets go back to scratching them. We all know when a dog babbles. Some of us don't like to admit it cause we own one.
