Garmin losing signal

Ok I got a used Garmin to use for awhile but the thing keeps losing signal with the collar.

Lastnight my buddy put my collar in his handheld and we stood beside each other and watched the difference in them. While mine showed him stationary in a field his showed where he went back to the woods down the edge and got treed. meanwhile mine said he was still in the field.....lol After he treed about a minute it finally showed him treed in that spot.

anyone ever had this problem and know how I fix it???

Batteries

Check and make sure your batteries are not weak. Mine will act funny when my batteries are about dead. If that is not it I would send it back to Garmin. I have had one ever since they came out and have not had anything wrong with mine but have had some buddies that kept having problems with theirs and they sent them back to Garmin. Got brand new units back. Hope this helps

A buddy of mine had the same problem. We linked his collar up to my hand held and we checked them side by side. I could pick them up fine and his hand held woldn't pick them up much over 100 yards. I'd say your hand held has a problem with the antenna. Contact Garmin.

Hook it up to a long range antenna, either the portable or truck mount and problem will be solved!

anytime you havent used it for a while or replace the transmitter with new batteries you are supposed to calibrate your compass. Im pretty sure that may be your problem.

looks like the Garmin ain't the best thing since homemade biscuits after all.......... LOL They aren't able to make a regular GPS that can make it through the summer leaves so i don't guess they can make a dog collar that can either. Oh yes i remember those nights......

mine gave me fits tonight, it showed my dog 90 yards, then switched to 1.12 miles then back to 90 yards. He was 90yards the whole time.

I have not have any problems with my Garmin!! Touch wood!!! I do know of some guys that have had trouble as they also use VHF radios and the frequency is close to the garmin and when using the truck mount antenna together will damage your Astro 220 as to were it doesn't get the range anymore...

i don't know when i have ever seen a product with so many pros and cons. new batteries are not always good batteries. what kills me about these things is lack of customer service. not with the dealers but with the manufacturer

I have. A man i hunt with somtimes has one. Somtimes it takes a LONG time for it to ever zero in on the satelites the very first time. You just have to stand there and wait and wait. Also, he's on his second truck charger and it's going bad too. Now, when it works, it;s really nice, but for $700 plus shipping it better work ALL the time.

Glad you got it replaced Perry. Looking forward to hunting with you again this year. I am working on a young dog, hopefully he'll really be clicking by the time you get up here.

Thanks. I did this and it seemed to help alot.

I also talked with the people at Garmin and they told me to send it in and they would replace or rebuild it. Other then waiting 15 minutes to talk to someone I thought the Costomer Care was great.

Garmin ?

Make sure your unit is not set on battery save mode. Make sure it is set to update every 5 seconds. I have found that this is a great product, not only tracking your hound but also a training tool. You can see just how your hound is working that track. If he drifts or back and forth any. The only problem I have had with them is the gps unit on the top of the collar. But always had great service. Just to remember to call and get a rma number to put on the box before shipping. I sent one of on friday and got it back the next friday. Thats seven days my door to theres and back. Try TRACKER's repair service! See if you have it back in seven days.....
