A.I. questions

i was just wondering about A.I. and if it is worht trying. let's say i have a female that i want bred to a male that is in Montana and didn't have the time to bring her there, would it be worth trying to A.I. her? what is the process? what does it usually cost? what is the success rate of A.I.? any input on this is appreciated as i have always wondered if it works.

Joe

Straws

Chilled semen is the way to go. The vet collects it from the male.
Freezes/chills it. Puts it in a cooler and overnights it to your vet. Then your vet warms it up and inserts it vaginally to your female in an office visit. Frozen semen is a way more expensive procedure. You get the semen the same way but it has to be surgically inplanted in the females falopian tubes. So you have a surgery bill on top of a stud fee. My buddy has a stud he ships straws from and his out of pocket costs to get semen drawn are $235 chilled and $325 frozen.

My experience with it was that I could ship my female to the stud and back and do a natural breeding cheaper than I could do AI. But I am in a remote area where the vets have a license to "rob" people so maybe thats why it was so high here.

I got a health certificate, used an old crate I had around the house and shipped my female for $300. Shipped her back in the same crate on the same health certificate for $250. So I had $550 in it and she got bred naturally. No having to pay for progesterone tests to find out when she was ready or paying for all the overnight shipping fees and special cooler to put it in fees and no paying the vet to warm it up and put it in. For me this just worked better. But I am close to an airport and you may not be.

You may have $550 this way but I bet you have close to that in shipping fees and vet fees by the time you pay both vets and you have the peace of mind that you got a natural tie which has to be better than AI.

DEAN BITZEL IN WABASH IN WILL BREED YOUR FEM WITH FROZEN SEMON FOR 200.00. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE SURGICALLY IMPLANTED.
HER USES BLOOD TEST TO SEE THE RIGHT TIME, THEN THAWSIT AND PUTS IT IN THREW HER CERVICS. HE HAS A VERY HIGH SUCCESS RATE. MOST LITTERS ARE 6-10 PUPS.
THE WHOLE THING IS 200.00
MOST VETS DONT DO IT RIGHT. GO WITH DEAN
