New to the Sport

Just wanted to know how to get started in the ukc dog hunting trials. I just moved to the Dayton Ohio area, and was wanting to know where some of these trials will be. My dogs are Akc reg. I have some good rabbit dogs that I just hunted in NY, but never trialed before. Hope to meet some new people and outdoorsmen. Thanks for any help in Advance.

Just jump in. No you should probably go too a few hunts and watch and learn before you enter a hound. If you go to the beagle home page on this site you can find a schedule and find a hunt near you. Or maybe someone on here that lives close could take you pleasure hunting and teach you. That would be your best bet. Anyone in OH able to help him out.

What is the running style of your dogs as far as their speed, search and jump. etc? We are having performance pack hunts in West Lafayette near Coshocton Ohio this week-end. Would be a good one to check out. You can register your dogs at the hunt. Can download the rules from the site here. For Performance pack you don't need to be very proficient on the rules to compete. A non-hunting judge is used. Give me a call if you have questions. 330-323-9649 Dan

Thanks

Thanks guys, I think I might do some reading of the rules first, I don't like to go into things uninformed. Don't get me wrong I do like competition, but don't like to get too serious about rabbit trialing. I prefer gun hunting, but would like to see how some of the other dogs work. I did some looking at some of my ped. last night. Some of the names of my dogs are, round pond, northway, armando, brankoe, Mcbride, etc. Don't really know much about these dogs, just no that they hunt real good, and to what I consider fast dogs.
