Why ?????

Why do people get on these message boards and ask what to breed their females too? If you have to ask what stud to breed to do you really need to be breeding her? I can understand asking if anyone has hunted with old so and so or pups off of him but letting others tell them what stud they should breed to doesn't make sence to me.

HOBO...........

maybe some of the younger folks don't know which strains cross best with others, and are just lookin' for a little advice on where to start...........I have Walkers, among other breeds, and KNOW that certain strains don't match up good with certain others, even if both dogs are fine hounds, for instance, I had little success crossin' the House strain with Finley River, back in the 70's...........haven't you experienced this to be true??

I think it may be like testing the market. I am going to breed suzie to big brad and if ten people want in they will do it. If nobody is impressed they will still do it, but know they are going to have to work to sell them.

i always do a lot of studying and research before breeding a female remember its genetics never breed for luck or because the stud is a world ch ect study the bloodline of your female and study the crosses made with the bloodline of your female
also breed for the traits you want in a pup I assume most people
breed there female for a pup or 2 unless you are running a puppy factory

No Skinner this wasn't the first thing on my mind. But after looking at pkc's board that seems to be all they ask on the breed boards..Was just wondering why people would ask what to breed their female too.
I understand if its a younger person just getting into the sport asking for ideas on what to breed to,but if it was me I'd call the breeder I got the dog from and ask him who I should breed to.
I agree with you 100% tnredman.

Can I hear an amen!!!!!

Maybe, I take this all way to serious, but to me if I had any questions about whether to breed a female or not I don't.

There are a couple of things that really bother me about coon hound breeding practices. I hate to see the term brood female because in most instances anymore it means a less than mediocre female. The other is someone who says help my female is in heat who do I bred her too???????

I know we live in America and everyone has the right to breed what ever to whom ever for any reason they deem fit. My problems is when people who make such crosses don't live up to the responsibility of breeding working dogs. I might be extreme, but when I personally make a cross I automatically assume I am going to be responsible for that litter until they are all gone. If I can't pay that bill, I don't make the cross.

Amen, Hobo!!!!!!

It can never hurt to see what other folks think. There was never an instance where someone made a mistake because they were too well informed. I agree that if you are gonna breed coondogs you should absolutely have a plan, but if your researching several months or even years before you plan on breeding your gyp then I think it is a good idea to see what other people are having some success with. Then if something catches your eye you can check out that breeding for yourself.

These message boards offer us a couple of major advantages. One of those (probably the biggest) is the ability to benefit from the experience of others, and do it quickly. Go ahead and get that information, but don't take everyone's word for it either. No doubt there will be people who give their advice that don't see what a hound should be the same as you. Not to mention people giving advice that really have no business giving advice. Don't breed dogs based on what others say alone. Check it out for yourself, but maybe you can get some ideas.

There isn't enough time in life to learn everything for yourself, so why waste the things that others have learned in thier life.

Hobo I do hope you know I was just kidding around with ya. That is one thing that impressed me with Mike. I had alot of hounds to pick from to breed Sue to. Some of these "big names" would'nt give me the time of day. It was like send me $300.00 (on up) and get in line. Never even ask me what kind of female she was or even her bloodline. Mike however ask me to bring Sue up to his place and watch her go and he could tell which stud would throw the best pups according to her abilities. He said if Boone was alive he'd would have loved to breed him to her. He recommended Fiddler and Lobo both. Sorry I did'nt know you to well at the time so I went with Fiddler. Don't get me wrong I just did'nt know that much about Lobo at the time. Nethertheless, I still ended up with a pup from Lobo and am well pleased with him. Im with all yall folks should study the traits more careful.

P.S. If you REALLY want to know what to breed to, I got him out in the pen

HOBO I think if you look at the question your absoulty right. If someone has to ask what to breed their dog to they probably shouldn't be breeding it. On the other hand and this has taken me a long time to realize ---we are dealing with message boards and people want to join in and discuss issues. Kind of like small talk people make about the weather. The best questions for someone that has never posted but wants to break the ice is questions about breeding, feed or good old ivermec. lol
I think we just need to keep in prespective what a message board is, be patient with one another and be thankful we can share our opnions.
Yes, this is Bruce and I am not having a bad day just a kinder one. lol

HOBO your right again. When your dealing with walker people the conversation is about how many you treed, how far you had to walk to the tree and when your going to tree another one. Why your selling that 18 month old power house cause your new 6 month old pup is tearing the woods up.
You have to learn a new language dealing with red dogs--kinda like--that sure is a pretty one---if it ever is as good as it is pretty you will have something---don't worry about it being two years old and still hanging around, just needs a few more coon---sure it will start staying treed once it is 4 or 5 years old---just stay a little closer and you won't have to worry about it not having a big mouth.
You know what they say "If your into excuses, your into Red Dogs".

OK my kindness didn't last long. lol
The Devil, I mean HOBO made me do it!!!

Before all you Red folks get your panties bunched up I am just having fun--consider me crazy-but some may consider me right. lol
Actuallly when the new PKC season starts in October I hope to be hunting a young Red female I own out of Sandy Creek JJ.

I DO NOT MEAN TO GET IN ON THIS CONVERSATION OR ANYTHING
BUT I CAN SAY ONE THING FOR SOME REASON I HAVE REALLY BEEN TELLING MY DAD HOW PRETTY I THINK THE REDBONE DOGS ARE, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY ARE LITTLE PUPPIES. HE WILL NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO SAY NOTHING, SINCE HE IS A TREEING WALKER MAN. I AM TRYING TO CONVINCE HIM TO GET A REDBONE BUT BUT BUT I HAVE HAD NO ANSWERS AND NO REPLIES .. OH WELL I GUESS I WILL JUST KEEP HINTING.
