Huntin' with Jamie Livengood @ Trashy Kennels
Jamie Livengood @ Trashy English Kennels came out last night for a coonhunt. He brought his newer 14 month old pup, PR Jamie’s Trashy Dixie and his & Jim Willyard’s PR Jim & Jamie’s Trashy Dan (6th reg. Thurs. nite English Days 2009). The first dump we turned loose around 9:45 Dawn, Mollee and Dixie. Mollee hunted out real good for about 20 minutes, and came back in. for the first time in her life I think she was tired Dawn struck a track and worked on it for a good 15 minutes. While we were back at the truck waiting, Dixie went about 10-20 yards from the truck and started working a track but got hung up. Dawn fell treed and we headed into her. We found the coon, but could not get him to look. Luckily it was in an open spot and I was able to get a good picture.
The next drop we took Dawn, Rebel, and Dixie. We turned them loose and it was a good 20 minutes at least before they struck, and they were far. We drove around to find Rebel treed on a big leaner. Dawn came into the tree about the same time we did. We found the coon (but I was not able to get a picture) and pulled the dogs off of it.- and no kiddin’ that coon ran right back out that tree! I turned Rebel loose on it and she located in a hole and came back out to me. The next turn out was Dawn, Rebel, and Dixie again. Dawn and Dixie struck in about 5 minutes and drove it is a hole. We were headed back to the truck to drive around and listen for Rebel, but she ended up coming into me. The next drop was once again, Dawn, Rebel, and Dixie. Rebel and Dawn ended up hitting a track fairly quick and treeing it. Dixie did a real nice job on this one as well, and man is she a TREE DOG!!!! We found the coon, but it was pretty hard to see so I didn’t bother trying to get a picture, but we definitely found the coon. The next drop we hunted Dawn, Mister, and Dan. They struck in about 2 or 3 minutes and slammed a tree no later than a few seconds after they opened. We drove the trucks right up to him- couldn’t get much easier than that! We found the coon and I snapped a picture of it & Mister and we headed back to the truck to take a ride to the other side of the field and turn loose. Now keep in mind this is the first time we ever hunted this spot! We got them out and went to turn loose, but Jamie caught that they would just run straight into the high wall about 10 yards in the timber! So, we took them back across the field and turned them loose. Dan struck in about 5 minutes not too far in front of us, and of coarse, my two bone heads struck on top of that high wall. Dan fell treed and as we were going into the tree Mister met us there. We found the coon so I got a quick picture of it as well as good ‘ole Dan. When we got back to the truck we heard Dawn and she sounded treed. We were able to drive right to her, only we were at the bottom and she was at the top of the high wall. We heard a coon squalling and she had caught it. Jamie said he would get her for me and he did. He said by the time he got up to her it had got away long enough to climb and she was treed on it. He didn’t have my camera, so I didn’t get any pictures that coon.
The next drop was Dan, Dawn and Mister again. By this time, everything was completely soaked from a steady downpour all night long. The dogs struck in about 10 minutes and were quickly treed. We drove around to them to find them treed on a cherry tree with the coon. I was able to get a picture of the coon and we headed back home for some breakfast; it was close to 5:00. We had a great hunt and we had a BLAST! Jamie sure is a lot of fun to hunt with and he said he really enjoyed it, and that he had a blast as well. We were lucky to find a coon in EVERY tree we made, and we also seen 3 on the road. We are excited for our next hunt with Jamie, he is a true pleasure to hunt with and he is a very honest, down to earth guy. He is really funny, too! All together, we seen 10 coons. We made 6 trees and found 6 coons, caught one on the ground and made a hole in the pouring rain. I would say we were packing some dog power!
Happy Hunting and enjoy the pictures!
