garmin

i just got of the phone with garmin about a donation for the wv youth hunt.they told me they did not have time to talk to me about donations for the youth hunt, and they don't have time for coonhunters trying to get items for free.WOW !!!!!!i'd rather lose my dog than give the sob's a dime.can you believe that,no time for coonhunters, but they'll sure sell you some.so keep supporting a company that does'nt support the sport you love.

Michael:

I wouldn't judge Garmin over speaking with just one of their representatives. Who did you speak to at Garmin?

Also before I would judge them I would think about where they could be from a financial situation.

Understand that we are in a deep recession and many company's have to cut cost and donations may be part of their cost cutting to stay in business. You cannot expect a company to just give their product away especially at the present time.

If I were in your shoes I would ask for donations from local hunters and perhaps purchase a new Garmin unit. If 12 generous hunters in your area would dontate $50 you could just buy a brand new unit.

Just my thoughts.

i talked to someone at the ks. office.the fact that they didn't donate isn't what pissed me off!the fact that they had no time for coonhunters looking for a handout is!remember this is for the youth..i bet they would donate to a major company...

I would have to agree. You would probly have better luck letting one of your local dealers contact their rep to get one. They have no way of knowing who you are and what you are gonna do with it. For all they know you could be a fraud and gonna stick it in you dog box and a youth never see it.

Agree wholeheartedly. The place you called was probably the corporate office in Olathe, KS. It is a HUGE highrise bldg that probably housed about 5-8 thousand workers, mostly office lackeys. Who knows if the person you got a hold of even has anything to do with any donations. I would think that your best bet would be to get ahold of your local rep that does ALOT of business (they have more pull). Have them get ahold of their contact at Garmin.

Nope, they make a good product. Again, who did you talk to? Someone in Marketing? Someone in Production, Product Development? You have to go to the right people. Like someone above posted, try to get some of the hunters around you to donate, and then go buy one. If you tell your dealer what it is for and promise a little pub from it you can probably get it for a pretty good discount form them.

I am sorry that you were treated badly by someone.
No-one can explain why an individual would be rude to someone on the phone but it happens at every company in the world at some time. I bet someone at a lot of car dealerships has been rude to a lot of people but does that mean that no-one should buy another Chevrolet or Ford because of one jerk? The products are great if you find the right person to deal with, but can leave a bad taste in your mouth if you get the wrong one.
I know from working at a large corporation for years that they also have to consider what precedent it might set when they do something. They may have policies pertaining to donations like the corporation I worked for did.
Also, I do know that Garmin is a supporter of coonhunting and they have helped sponsor several events in the different coonhound registries. Not sure who was contacted or exactly how it was set up.

I would at least try another call before condemning the whole company. This man has helped me in the past with several issues and may be able to help you or at least let you know who to talk to. Give him a call and try if you like. Hope it works out for the youth.

Mike,
You might get through to him quicker on this line instead of the toll free one. : 913-397-8200. I hope he can help or let you know the policy or who to contact. Good luck.
