Question for Bench Show Judges

This may not apply to all of you. But it applies to every bench show I have witnessed so far where a Leopard was showing.

Why are the ears being pulled out towards the end of the Leopard Hounds nose? The breed standard clearly says the ears can be short. Is it just a habit to check ear length of a dog? I mean, if the ears can be short accoring to the breed standard does it really matter.

Just curious about this. I have noticed this trend at a couple of shows and just want to understand why this is being done if short ears are acceptable.

Judges not knowing the breed standard would be my guess.

We all as MOH/BSJ need to update ourselves on the NEW BREED policies every year....

I think it is just habit for some judges. It is the same with the Plott hound. You see judges always pulling the ear forward.

FINALLY! Went to an RQE today and the BSJ did not check the ears on the Leopard. She won CH female and was an awesome looking dog. Guess I spoke too soon. Maybe the BSJ's are finally learning the standards on this new breed.
