new batteries??

ok so im slowly getting back into the sport. i pulled out my old light and it still lights up but not sure how long it will last. it was built by a local guy. my question is does anybody out there put new batteries in them, and is that worth it or should i just try to get a new one. this light has the original bulb in the 5100 head. i cant remember what hte volts are between 18 and 21 i would guess. hell i couldnt even find the charger but my laptop charger powered it up. thanks for your help friends

btw i think they are nicad batteries its heavy haha i know its not gell cell i think they look like d batteries
