calves being killed ?

I have a friend who has had 6 calves killed. One about every 3 days. When the last was killed he called me to go see what I thought was going on. The calf was only a few weeks old. Being so small it was almost entirely eaten. I checked it for the usual signs to try and figure out what had killed it. The feet and legs had no signs of bite marks. The neck was broken, there were no claw marks on either side of the face like you usually see with a lion. There was no blood built up under the skin on either side of the face, like happenes when a bear hits one in the face to break there neck. I wasn't able to see if it was a bite to the back of the neck that broke it. The hide was pulled off and gone from most of the neck. I did find a hole the size of a quarter on the bottom of the neck where it meets the briskit. The hole was pretty much round. Has anyone ever seen this before? What does everyone think was killing the calves?

I'd search around the kill area for any tracks to help in your search for some answers, as far as the hole could be just a small claw tear.

So Tell Us

What killed the calves? A pulled arrow and a scalping?

Just turn those blues out and send it packing. I have heard a lot of people talking now about calves coming up dead, not just in your neck of the woods but everywhere. And that is why they need to be hunted, MAYBE he should go to the animal rights groups and ask who is going to pay him for his loss. :-)

He had moved his cows and calves the mourning he called me. When I went and looked it over it was pretty old. I have told some other guys she was there and to watch thier cows. So if it kills another one they'll call me, and I'll catch it. We'll also call DOW.
