Tree countdown?

Does anybody else agree that 5 minutes is WAY too long to let some me too dog cover a dog that has already ran and treed a coon alone, yet we reward the dog for covering. I myself like the PKC countdown and wish UKC would do something similar. If my dog runs and trees it alone he don't need someone else there barking. JMO I hate loosing this way

Yes I have hated this for yrs. No dog needs 75 tree points for treeing after the dog that treed the coon has been treed4min 50sec. and the covering dog gets 75.This rule needs changed. It needs to be first 30sec. 75 next 30sec.50 after the first min. then all you can tree for is 25 . Give the dog that trees the coon all the credit not the me to-er. Come on UKC get with the program and reward the coon dog. Would like to see this Changed. Yuo have my vote.

Ashley what I would like to se is all Kc Have the same set of rules and that would solve a lot of things. the NBA has one set of rules Nas-car has one set of rules Golf has one set of rules. It would be real easy to do and would make it much better for the Hunter and the people that support the KC's. But the coon dog world has all ways been hard headed and does not take change well. And that is realy sad for all. O well I guess that is just wishfull thinking.

We think a lot a like. Minor differences in rules can take a win away from an coon dog too easy.

Definitely needs to be a countdown. The name of the game is to see who can tree the most coon the fastest.

I'm sick of seeing dogs that don't tree 1 coon on their own all night still in the race in the last 20 mins with 500 600 or even 700+.

A dog that does not tree a coon all night on its own or 1st does not deserve those points!

THE COUNT DOWN RULE IS THE BEST RULE TO REWARD THE COONDOG AND HURT THE ME TO DOGS BUT IT IS NOT INTO EFFECT WE NEED TO TELL OUR BREED OFFICERS OUR OPINION ON THIS RULE AT TIME TO VOTE ON RULE CHANGES.

Here is something else that is not right with how UKC does a cast. there should be three people on a cast at all times. If you have a four dog cast and 2 dogs W D that leaves 2 dogs to hunt and 2 handlers. and the other 2 leave the cast. now if you get treed by yourself and you have a coon and it will beat the other dog and he says I don't see no coon there is no way to vote or score that tree the right way. Where if there was three people at least you should be done right and a vote could be done. Not only that it would stop a lot of these cast from coming in with a redickless score after the other cast menbers leave and they can do what the want. If you want your KC to have titles that mean something I would think this would be a must. I hope no one takes this wrong way I would rather hope this had not been though out well and was just an over site. And would be taken care of. If this were done then when a dog was titled it would mean more and the people that won there cast with a onest score might win instead of the 2 that do what the want. Just my opinion

Leave it alone.

I don't want UKC to turn into PKC. When I want to hunt PKC, I hunt PKC.
If A is getting 1st tree all night and B taking 2nd or 3rd, it is going to be hard, almost imposible for B to beat A. I know it can happen, because it happened to me. A few years ago, Mr. Me Too (a sorry excuse of a coondog) whipped the hide off of my dog. Heres how he did it. Three dog cast. I was hunting a 2 yr old NtCH another guy was hunting a BIG walker female and Mr Me Too. About 30 minutes in the big female withdrew. My old dog was a good dog but he would pull up slick some. Every time I treed the other dog would fall in and lock it down, the guy would strike & tree. We'd go in and have a coon. Everytime I treed and the other dog went in and hit a few licks treed then shut up. We'd go in and be slick. It was obvious that his dog wasn't hunting and he was just backing my dog or he was dead silent and not opening on track. He wouldn't back my dog on slick trees (I"m not knocking the dog because he wouldn't back a slick tree), but he wasn't doing anything either. I tried to question what was going on, but it fell on deaf ears. I can't remember and don't want to remember the score but by the end of the night I was beat & the mutt won our cast and didn't have any minus.

With all that being said, that is the only time I can remember getting beat because of a me too dog.

What you've prolly got is an HONEST strike dog!

This rule change was actually proposed in 2006. The Walker Asssocition voted yes, the other 5 voted no. Figures.......

The problem is the "Me too" dog hanging around all night and waiting on a mistake to be made and finish with a win with a WHOLE bunch of points it DOES NOT deserve.

It cant be just a discussion without bringing the breed factor into the situation can it.

Simple fact Shawn. Go back in the archives and look it up. The discussion is about changinga rule. I just mentioned that the change had been proposed, voted on and how the Associations voted on it. Ok?

My dog lost a cast just like this on Friday, three dog cast, two dogs got split all night, third dog covered both o fthem all night and was going in for a high strike every time. A couple times over 4 mins had elapsed by the time the third dog got there. Really sucks to get beat by a dog that b=never treed a coon all night.

So coon hunter, it don't bother you to have at least 2 independent dogs on a cast treeing coons alone and a dog striking and and covering both of them and getting part of most every coon scored on without treeing his own? Not my type of dog regardless of what it wins.

elvis you are right but when you have an accurate dog you just guarantee has a coon it's bothering. Beside I love when the me too dogs cover slicks and possums. Serves them right for not having a mind of their own.

How do we get these two rules changed?

I have not hunted in competition for along time. I've got a pup I plan on hunting in the future. I would like to see these two rules changed, (count down tree points and more than two hunters on a cast), before my dog is ready. It just makes good plain common sense.
What has to happen to get this on the agenda to vote on? Who do we have to talk to? What paper work has to be filed? Educate me and everyone else that does not like these rules so we can do something about them.

Thanks for bringing this up to make this sport more enjoyable and fair to everyone.

Scott
