this is disturbing

i got his in my e-mail and thought id pass it on....

Fwd: Mad and sending this to everyone

SHALL WE HIRE A MONUMENT ENGRAVER TO GO TO ARLINGTONNATIONAL
CEMETERY AND ADD THE MISSING WORDS?

A MESSAGE FROM AN APPALLED
OBSERVER:

Today I went to visit the new World War II Memorial in W ashington , DC . I got an unexpected history lesson. Because I'm a baby boomer, I was one of the youngest in the crowd.. Most were the age of my parents, Veterans of 'The Greatest War,' with their families. It was a beautiful day and people were smiling and happy to be there.

Hundreds of us milled around the memorial, reading the inspiring words of Eisenhower and Truman that are engraved there.

On the Pacific side of the memorial, a group of us gathered to read the words President Roosevelt used to announce the attack on Pearl Harbor:
"Yesterday, December 7, 1941-- a date which will live in infamy--the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked."

One elderly woman read the words aloud: "With confidence in our armed forces, with the abounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph."

But as she read, she was suddenly turned angry. "Wait a minute,"
she said, "they left out the end of the quote. They left out the most important part. Roosevelt ended the message with 'so help us God.'"

Her husband said, "You are probably right. We're not supposed to say things like that now."

"I know I'm right," she insisted. "I remember the speech." The two
looked dismayed, shook their heads sadly and walked away.

Listening to their conversation, I thought to myself, 'Well, it has been over 50 years. She's probably forgotten.'

But she had not forgotten. She was right.

I went home and pulled out the book my book club is reading --- "Flags of Our Fathers" by James Bradley. It's all about the battle at Iwo Jima .

I haven't gotten too far in the book. It's tough to read because it's a graphic description of the WWII battles in the Pacific.

But right there it was on page 58. Roosevelt 's speech to the nation ends in 'So help us God.'

The people who edited out that part of the speech when they engraved it on the memorial could have fooled me. I was born after the war! But
they couldn't fool the people who were there.

Roosevelt's words are engraved on their hearts.

Now I ask: "WHO GA VE THEM THE RIGHT TO CHANGE THE WOR DS OF HISTORY?"

Send this around to your friends. People need to know before everyone
forgets.

People today are trying to change the
history of America by leaving God out of it but the truth is God has been a part of this nation since the beginning! He still wants to be and He always will be!

If you agree, pass this on and God Bless YOU!

If not, May God Forgive You!

Re write history, thats what it all comes down to, constantly re writing what was historically correct. I guess this way they figure if they change it the old saying history repeats itself cant happen.

The other day it was announced on the local news here that the Maryland state song is going to be reworded because of the content of the song. The song plays in tune with "Ole Christmas Tree" but since it was written during the War ,legislatures feel the need to change it that it is not PC correct. exspecially the part brought up was the sentence "she spurns the northern scum"

History is what it is History you cant re write it.
Below is the state song as it has been for many moons.

The despot's heel is on thy shore,
Maryland!*
His torch is at thy temple door,
Maryland!
Avenge the patriotic gore
That flecked the streets of Baltimore,
And be the battle queen of yore,
Maryland! My Maryland!
II

Hark to an exiled son's appeal,
Maryland!
My mother State! to thee I kneel,
Maryland!
For life and death, for woe and weal,
Thy peerless chivalry reveal,
And gird they beauteous limbs with steel,
Maryland! My Maryland!
III

Thou wilt not cower in the dust,
Maryland!
Thy beaming sword shall never rust,
Maryland!
Remember Carroll's sacred trust,
Remember Howard's warlike thrust,-
And all thy slumberers with the just,
Maryland! My Maryland!
IV

Come! 'tis the red dawn of the day,
Maryland!
Come with thy panoplied array,
Maryland!
With Ringgold's spirit for the fray,
With Watson's blood at Monterey,
With fearless Lowe and dashing May,
Maryland! My Maryland!
V

Come! for thy shield is bright and strong,
Maryland!
Come! for thy dalliance does thee wrong,
Maryland!
Come to thine own anointed throng,
Stalking with Liberty along,
And chaunt thy dauntless slogan song,
Maryland! My Maryland!
VI

Dear Mother! burst the tyrant's chain,
Maryland!
Virginia should not call in vain,
Maryland!
She meets her sisters on the plain-
"Sic semper!" 'tis the proud refrain
That baffles minions back amain,
Arise in majesty again,
Maryland! My Maryland!
VII

I see the blush upon thy cheek,
Maryland!
For thou wast ever bravely meek,
Maryland!
But lo! there surges forth a shriek,
From hill to hill, from creek to creek-
Potomac calls to Chesapeake,
Maryland! My Maryland!
VIII

Thou wilt not yield the Vandal toll,
Maryland!
Thou wilt not crook to his control,
Maryland!
Better the fire upon thee roll, Better the blade, the shot, the bowl,
Than crucifixion of the soul,
Maryland! My Maryland!
IX

I hear the distant thunder-hum,
Maryland!
The Old Line's bugle, fife, and drum,
Maryland!
She is not dead, nor deaf, nor dumb-
Huzza! she spurns the Northern scum!
She breathes! she burns! she'll come! she'll come!
Maryland! My Maryland!

It isn't true.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/memorial.asp

The real inscription on the memorial reads: "Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941, a date which will live in infamy...No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American People, in their righteous might, will win through to absolute victory. President Franklin D. Roosevelt"

The sentence in his speech that ends in "so help us God" reads, "With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph, so help us God." and does not appear on the memorial at all.

There are so many more things to get upset over these days - why let yourself get bent out of shape over something that isn't even true?

Annie
