Very Good, Read This..

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.

They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, How was the trip?

It was great, Dad.

Did you see how poor people live?, the father asked.

Oh yeah, said the son.

So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?, asked the father.

The son answered:

I saw that we have one dog and they had four.

We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.

We have imported lanterns in the garden and they have the stars at night.

Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.

We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.

We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.

We buy food, but they grow theirs.

We have walls to protect us, they have friends to protect them.

The father was speechless.

Then his son added, Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.

My Great Granddaddy

When I was little there was a HUGE house up on a hill that we had to pass by on the way to and from my Great Grandparent's house. I used to say things about that big house and how those people were "rich."

One day granddaddy told me that the man who lived in that house had a whole bunch of money but that he was the poorest man in town. Naturally that was hard for a little girl to understand. Then granddaddy told me he was poor because he didn't have any friends and that no one in town liked him.

My granddaddy lived in a small farm house, drove an old worn out truck and worked 12+ hours a day on his farm just to get by. When my granddaddy died over 200 people attended his funeral. My whole life I thought my granddaddy was "poor." It was until his death I found out just how rich he really was.

Thanks for sharing this story. It has brought back some great memories for me and put a big smile on my heart tonight.
