How does one go about making a dog into a Rig Dog?? From what ive seen and know, my male that i want to be a rig dog his father and grandfather are great rig dogs and i want to do the same he has been on the rig about 15 times he has only struck about twice the first time he was 11 months i was able to let him down and he started the track but needed a little help from my old female (his mom), whats the best practice for this?

rig dogs

i have hunted a lot with rig dogs i had a female that had never riged before and i made her into a good rig dog by just putting her on the rig and turning her lose every time she would strick once she treed a few coon she taught her self, it is a fun wat to hunt and helps young dogs because most tracks you hit are hot.

Keep doing what you're doing. They either have it in them or they dont. Wouldn't hurt to take a fresh killed coon and hang it in the tree a little off the road, and keep driving by until he strikes, then cut him loose and let him tree on that. Other than that, just keep doing it until he's doing it dependably...and only on what you want him to run.
